True, I have the weapons of each individual cons but nothing special for Dev but I'm working on it. I took new pics as I tried my new lightbox and as you can see comparing with the old pics (that were taken in daylight) the purple parts seem blue in daylight. With the lightbox, the colors stay faithful to the original.

I can honestly say that this Devastator is easily my favorite out of all the copies it has inspired. There have been both good and bad copies, but the original wins out.

    Even I agree.
It's unbelievable what this custom did to TFs customs. Ptitvite is honestly a pioneer and set a bar many have tried to reach.

I've seen about 10 on ebay since mine. (matter of fact, I think there are 2 live auctions as I write this) Sadly, I feel more people make these with hopes to profit, rather than make them for the feeling of accomplishment.

    Ebay:
Man the black backdrop makes it look even MORE amazing. Are you using a sheet of black satin cloth? I am tiring of printing my backdrops(even though they are neat) and between this custom and F_R's the black is always win for me.

I have to ask, about how much do you think this all cost you to make?

I really want to make one for myself, my Classics Decepticons need this guy on their side. I just want a rough estimate for how much I should be looking to set aside.

And also, I read somewhere about you maybe using Lego/Bionicle pieces for connectors? I might go with that, or possibly Zoids Bloxs... blocks. Suggestions?

Ironic, considering it was probably your Devastator auction that sold for thousands that got people to thinking that they can make a profit out of making one to sell.

    $50 for Unicron
    $50 for Primus
$50 for Rid Build Team (or repaints)
    $10 for Energon Demolisher
    $10 for Energon Barricade
$5 for Tonka cement mixer toy
$10 for casted Cyb Starscream head or Ptivite custom head
$40 for connection parts (bionicle, neo-shifter, etc) & painting materials and other misc parts and pieces.
$$$$ for hours and hours of time needed to build the thing.

So you're looking at $200 to $300 on materials.

These are all rough estimates of course

While I agree with this, never confuse why I do my customs though. Never for money, though money keeps me making more.

    My favorite Devastator.

Wait, maybe I'm missing something here, but don't you do commissions full-time now like it's your job? So technically, isn't this the majority of your income? Just asking.

    yes and no.
I do it because I love it, not because it pays well, hell most of the time I lose money on projects. There's a difference between making a devastator because mine raked in 3 grand, and making a devastator because you enjoyed making it.

    Thank you mentor :)

Thanks :)  Yeah, I see one Dev on ebay every week...Actually, 2 sellers this week... It makes me want to put mine on ebay right now...I'd just want to see their faces :ev:
But yeah, I did Devastator with pride with no intention of getting profit from it....Still, it pisses me off to see these Devs out there for the sole purpose of money...I really have to get over it.

I got a black and a white cotton towel, depending of the base color of my custom. It really modified the appearance of the custom when I had to use a flash..even in daylight. Direct sunlight was'nt that bad but in winter, I don't count on the big guy :)  I still have to practice as my camera is very sofimisticated and I just don't have the guts to read the instructions :sly2:

Thanks! and sorry! I know how many of you guys are fed up of Devastators...
Don't worry, Aerialbots season is coming!:ev:

SCPrime got it right... It cost me about 240$ to make Devastator
I was not lucky enough to get Primus and Unicron on clearance and had to pay the full retail price. If your lucky, you can easely save 100$ by getting loose with missing parts Primus and Unicron. As for the connectors, go with Lego technics connectors, Lego Knights and Energon combiner ports IF you replicate the same Dev I did.

I understand you kitbash for a living...I'd love to do the same but never in the world would kitbashing replace my current salary. It's nice to get some extra cash selling a custom on ebay but I can't imagine getting enough to pay the bills unless I only sleep 2 hours a day... Still, I'm jealous of you F-R

it's amazing how fast these devastators are getting made and put on ebay, ya it boggles my mind. is it for mere profit or for the love of the art, who knows, but if they are going on ebay on a weekly basis well we know the answer. For me, i have a hard time parting ways with art that i spent lots of time on it and most especially enjoyed doing it.
in summation more power to us radicons

    Epic. Simply epic.

My mind has been beginning to associate Transformers customs with this piece right here in this thread. That's quite an accomplishment, imo.

    Great work, buddy :thumb

I had a question, but I think I just figured it out. You used Barricade as a base for Mixmaster, yes?

I think I might have to dig out my Armada figures for pieces.

Oh, and I saw something interesting on YouTube by someone else imitating this: using Energon Skyblast as the chestplate. Which I think I might give a try. We'll see.
