I'm planning on getting a PS3 within the next couple of days. Thing is, I really, really want a backwards compatible model and I've spotted a few used ones for sale locally, mostly 20 and 60gb models.

From what I've read, the old 20gb and 60gb models have the hardware Emotion engine, while the 80gb MGS4-bundled version has software emulation, which apparently has its share of limitations, or so I've read.

I was thinking of getting either an old 20 or 60gb model and eventually swap the HD for a bigger one.

Besides Hardware emulation and the lack of Wifi/card slot on the 20Gb version, is there anything else I should be aware of? Also, is the Blu-ray player good enough to use as my primary/only Blu-ray player?

Otherwise, is there a reason why I should NOT get one of these older models? I just don't want to keep the old PS2 around due to space limitations. If a PS3 goes in, the PS2 has to get out.

I don't have one but the 60 GB is the only one I would consider. I want the Hardware Backwards Compatibility and I want the Wi-Fi. I'm a stickler I guess if someone comes out with a machine I want all that was promised not less.

Don't consider the 20 gig. I can't remember the issue with it, but you might as well just get the 60.

    The 20 is missing something...

Wi-Fi and some of the card slots, I believe. I can't remember if there was anything else different.

60 GB is the way to go.

I'm in the same boat, I want a PS3, but for what I want (the 60 GB) it'll cost an A$$LOAD of money.

I just wish SONY would re-released the damn thing. Then I'll just go out and finally buy it.

All they do is release PS3's with more storage space (and less goodies). The storage you can always change with something larger since the PS3 hard drives are universal.

get a 60GB. it's the best version of the system there is.
also, the PS3 is the best blu ray player on the market. you won't need another one.

60 gig. Try to find one used. I got my 60 gig for about 280 back when MS was doing cashback on eBay.

its seems that if you want to get the 20gb wireless, you cant...it has issues when you try to hook up a wireless adapter to it.

I have a 60 gig and upgraded the hard drive to a 320 gig. The only other thing that might be missing on the 20 are the memory card inputs to the left of the CD drive insert. Also the 60 gig has 4 USB port on the front of the console the 20 might only have two. Blueray player question, yes the PS3 is the best one out their now.
