For those of us who came in late...and don't want to be spoiled by the already 130+ page thread for those with a different video game system, it was suggested in that that I make a new thread for us newbies.

(Mod, if this feels like duplication, please just delete it.)

But for those who are just starting out discovering this franchise, what kind of Shepard are you going to play? And are you going to both with the comic or not to get around the problem of not having played Mass Effect 1?

For me I'll probably be doing female Shepard, vanguard, colony origin, paragon, sole survivor. I'm undecided about the comic right now.

I tried out the demo on PSN. I don't usually dig first person shooters but this looks pretty awesome. One of my friends at work is begging me to buy it (He has it on xbox) and he says he'll help me make the right choices in the comic intro so my experience is better.

Don't get him to help you the first time.
Choosing those decisions for yourself helps make the game unique for you.

Does the PS3 version have Lair of the Shadow Broker built in, or is it still DLC for you guys? Either way, I would suggest doing it. It's one of the most fun missions in the game.

I was thinking about starting up Mass Effect 1 this week. I've owned it for like 3 years now.

There are few games that make my top everything list. Zelda Ocarina of Time, Zelda (NES), Zone of Enders 2, Phantasy Star 1 and 4, and ICO and Shadow of Colossus. Mass Effect 1 became one of them easily. It's not perfect, but it is Space PRGing greatness :)

Yeah, ME1 was fantastic. ME2 is also great, but I was disappointed in the removal of the inventory, and practically non existent weapon selection. I hope ME3 has more weapon options.

I would make those choices yourself.

The Mass Effect series is unlike any other game series I have played in that there are actual consequences to your decisions.
I don’t think one choice or the other changes the enjoyment of the game.

    Ha ha! Prowl, right?

    There. Now it's true.

I'm a fanboy to both. I have also collected every photo that Smasher has posted of himself on these boards, thus making me a Smasher fanboy. If you say Smasher has "no games," or "Smasher red rings often," I will defend him.

I'll probably pick this up when it reaches my side. Got a worryingly big stack of game to get through one day though, so can't guarantee that this thread won't be 130 pages when I actually pull the trigger on playing it.

One of my must buy games of 2011. I will go the unconventional route and pick something that may not be too obvious but will offer plenty of challenges.
