I recently had my original 60GB PS3 die and I got a new one with 160GB.

    So, I'm left with a 60GB 2.5" hard drive that's doing nothing.

Well, I was looking into getting an external hard drive for college and was wondering...

Can I just reformat the PS3 hard drive I have to work with PC and Mac (getting a Mac for college) and just buy a case for it with a USB connection?

If I can, how do I reformat it?

    -Thanks

You put it in the enclosure and hook it up. Windows will probably ask if you want to format it as soon as you plug it in. If not, just right click the drive and select "format".

It's about as easy as easy gets.

Awesome. Just saved some money. Found this on Amazon for $10 shipped and it's $70 in retail. :D

    This will work, correct?

EDIT: Will it work for both Windows and Mac? Like a flash drive?

You shouldn't have any problem with it if you're just transferring files. I've got a pc, and my friend has a mac. Never had a problem sharing media on my external, but it was formatted as fat32. Windows will auto-format to NTFS if you choose to format it through the format utility on your pc. If you want fat32 you could always pop it into your ps3 and format it there since the ps3 uses fat32.
