When did they announce the preorders? I thought most Gamestops and EB's said they were waiting until their allocation numbers sometime in October.

The scary thing is, as venomously opposed to the price tag as I am, on the release date, I could probably spring for two of them...

... but I have to spring for a Wii and DS Lite too...

Man, when this thing comes down in price, the shelves are gonna be smoking hot from all the snatching....

I bought a PS2 on launch day here in the UK.

I gave it to my brother for a Birthday present.

This year I'll be giving away a Pink DS lite to my other half. And maybe a Wii or a 360 for myself. Maybe a Wii. Dunno. The point is PS3 is totally out of the running here, its not even an option.

I think that there will be lots of people in my boat, we'll buy for Christmas (traditionally the time where people spend lots of money on frivolous things) and lament when the PS3 comes out in March. I think Sony are overestimating their chances that the majority of people will wait 4 months.

Sort of like Nintendo with the N64...

Who's airing dirty laundry? As far as I'm aware it's common knowledge he was a moderator at one point and it is indeed odd behaviour for someone who held that position.

In general, for an games store employee, none of those things would really happen. Most brick-and-mortar EBstops don't do bundles, and because of severe limitations in stock the preorder stuff will be just as binding for the employees.

I mean, I'm sure it happens somewhere, but it's not going to be the norm for people who are actually employees. Far from it.

In reality, the only major advantage he/she would have is being among the first to know when his/her particular store will allow the preorder. And thanks to the Internet/persistance on the part of the 'guy walking in off the street', that's not that much of an advantage.

    So, no, not much difference.

i got the PS2 at launch, there were only so may systems that i had 24 hours to pick it up or they'll give it to someone else....i just had enough to buy it and one year later was when i bought my first game (Gran Turismo 3).

i bugged my g/f to get me one for "a" X-Mas or B-Day...but she saw the price and said "HELL NO, i wouldn't even buy you the newest X-Box, so why would i get you this"

so if i do get one, it'll be all on me.

I didn't even have to ask my gf..she bought me one for my b-day in Feb, a little after the actual day when they were easier to get. Omnibus' girlfriend FTW.

    ...

No way in hell is she spending $600, though. I ain't even gonna try that one.

I think it was what some would call a "rhetorical question".

Let it go, guys. It's all past tense, no point in paying any attention to it now.

Back on topic, I'm not planning on getting a PS3 at launch anyway. Launch units always have odd errors, anyhow. The limited numbers suggest Sony are going to rush to get more ready in time - which is going to cause a major headache when some QC issue arises from the rush.
I think the Europe delay might actually be for the best - it'll hurt them financially, but it'll also mean that once we get it, the QC issues will be more or less resolved. One would hope so, or at least, hope there weren't any to begin with.

Still, unless there's something phenomenal on PS3, like Suikoden VI and a Wild Arms 6, I'm not buying right away. I've got more than enough PS2 titles to keep me going.

MGS4 won't be available anywhere near launch, so in this case, probably not.

Normally Id be pissed, but since the 360's game linup is taking off well, I dont mind the wait. (or the extra time to save)
Will use the spare time to pick up the Wii.
Once I finally have all 3 new systems, my brain will explode from being overwhelmed by new possibilities.
