My mom just bought the Household a 80gig Ps3 today and when I hooked it up It started to freeze and restart.

After I managed to Hook up the WIFI connection I updated then it restarted itself then when it managed to update it turned off then turned back on saying that the software can't be displayed please reinstall update 2.80 or below

then it managed to go back then I saw the Restore Harddrive option so that's what I'm currently doing What will happen next

If it keeps going take it back. They should not be doing that, so you don't want to start with a faulty one.

    Is she getting a replacement?

Yeah when a system starts bad you're best bet is to return it.

they were out of PS3's where she got them she said the 160 GB's will be in next week she might buy one of them......she also said she might just wait for the PS3 120GB and just pay 300 like the 80GB

I don't really care which one she gets as long as it works.

You guys might want to just wait for the SLIM. Or if you can find a 60 (new) it doesn't hurt to have BC. But this article might help you, just in case, because the Slim is only one week away..

the PS3 XMB will get an update with the next firmware update (next week I think). Whether or not its an improvement remains to be seen. I don't mind the current menu setup at all, but a change will be interesting.

Yeah I really don't mind XMB at all. It's cleaner and pretty damn obvious where everything is.

I can sorta see where he is coming from.

For I the XMB worked perfectly on the PSP as it was a small sleek handheld and was well suited for its display yet when it was used for PS3 it felt underwhelimg. It felt they could have offered a more visually appealing and concise navigation system for the meater big brother.

Just because it was perfect for one sony prduct doesn't mean its perfect for another. Though in hindsight with the ability for remote play and downloading PSP games directly it makes sense to have it similar on each machine as familiarity makes those processes more user friendly :)

yes and that's really what it's about. My Sony Vaio has a media center and it has the same media bar, thus when I first started using it, it was instantly familiar. And supposedly Sony LCD owners (I'm not one) will have control of their PS3 Slims with their TV remote as they also share that in common.

I like simple and to the point in interface. Messy gives me a headache.

I love the XMB. So simple, to the point and allows for my own backgrounds to be showcased without the mess getting in the way.

exactly, *cough* speaking as a graphic designer, the xmb is a fine example of usability and simplicity.
