I have recently acquired a first run Kickback from G1. This little guy is the same as a regular Kickback in every way except for one thing: he never received his chrome applications! This is not merely a "worn chrome" Kickback. All of the chrome is missing, not a fleck of chrome to be seen on the gun or wings! The plastic still has a high gloss, unlike the dull plastic found on worn parts. This type of prototype would have most likely been a test to check the mold.

Yeah, I noticed that too. They could probably be switched around, but I'm not too keen on removing any screws or "correcting" my new grail. It kind of adds to the piece in a way, like it was hand assembled incorrectly.

As do I. Maybe even more if the wings were translucent a bit.

I didn't realize it had rounded wings. The reissues have pointy wings.

The reissues use the original wing design (going back to Diaclone days) that were not kid friendly. The rounded design was created to prevent poking kids eyes out during the G1 run. Just further proof for sceptics that this is something older and not a recently produced item.

A Singapore collector sold it to me. I have been after him for several years to sell me one of his rare prototypes, and I finally caught him while he was in need of some money :)  He has the other two Insecticons without chrome, and I want them badly!

Nice, I was gonna ask if you were sure they were not protos from the reissue but my question was answered. What is the copy write information on it. I love prototypes, the weirder the better and to get one from G1 line is awesome. I have been after Hitch to sell me some of his holy grails....
    I'll keep bugging him ;)

Inside the chest cavity it has the Takara and Hasbro copyright info. You're right, G1 protos are very tough. Adding this little dude to my collection is a nice achievement :)

Did the seller mention where he got them from? They could be repro parts, or parts taken from a KO. The wings would be easy enough to switch, I think you only need to remove the one screw on either side. I am just very skeptical of G1 prototypes and test shots.

I'm sure he knows the guy he got it from. I understand that repro parts, knockoff stuff, or just plain altering that could account for this but you have to consider where and who he got it from. I know if I got something from Hitch and he told me it was a prototype it would be legit. It definitely helps to buy from someone who has a good reputation. I hope I am not speaking out of line but I know Bradforj and I am sure he checked things out prior to purchase.

Thanks megamus :)  The collector I got Kickback from has been around for years but never got involved on boards. I've known him since the late 90's (from my days on alt.toys.transformers) and saw a pic of the three unchromed Insecticons around 2001. I've been after him to sell me one of them for years. The really cool thing is I may be getting the other two soon!
