Sumdac is commonly referred to as "Professor" Sumdac, along with his name and "Doctor." The latter two I totally understand, but Sumdac is obviously an inventor and industrial magnate, and not an academic of any kind. "Professor" as an honorific indicates a position within a faculty, and does not always mean PhD, although that is commonly the case. Scientists CAN be professors, and vice versa, but we haven't seen any indication that Sumdac is a professor, have we? As an academic myself, this interchangeability of "Doctor" and "Professor" just kind of bugs me.
