OK, I have been through several threads, looking for cool info and repaints and ideas. Would you like to know what I have found? People bickering, making snide remarks and being overly sarcastic. If I wanted that type of thing I would have stayed with my exwife. Or I would call my sisters more often. This is supposed to be a place where we as T-former fand can visit to TALK to others that share our intrests and escape stressfulness of life. Or at least it is for me. Howerver regardless of the reason for being here, it is not a place for petty arguments. Debate this, that or the other thing....fine, no problem. But noone comes here to insult or to be insulted. Or to read other peoples snide words because the author was being over sensitive. Leave your bad day on your side of the computer. I think we as TFW2005 board members are better than this type of behavior, don't you??

I agree, but it's just an internet thing. Read Clutchburn's sig for a great representation of this equation.

I'm guilty of snarky remarks myself, but they usually only stem from reading movie threads, or if I'm joking around.

I hope to NEVER hurt anyone's feelings or disrepect his/her point of view. We are all here for one reason, we love Transformers. I've learned over the years that no Transformer exists that at least one fan doesn't like. The one fan that likes, doesn't make him/her any less of a fan. Nor does a size of a collection matter, just the heart of the fan. If you see Starcream as a back-stabbing murderer or the leader of a Rock N'Roll band, it's all the same. I applaud everyone who comes here to share a personal fantasy, TF Humor, or anything else that adds to the infinite mythos of the Transformers. May all words be humble, for one day we may have to eat them.

This is one of the more friendly boards I've seen to be honest. People get along here great.

Of course, after being on Usenet for so many years every message board seems tame to me.

I'll assume the original poster is talking about movie threads.

The problem as I see it is that it's a negativity begets negativity thing. Take a standard movie news thread, it usually starts of nice enough. Add in 1 detractor posting something tasteless like "It's a slap to the face of the fans" or even a "Real fans wouldn't stand for this [bleep]" And that's where a thread turns sour, because then an enthusiast would reply in a more or less calm tone. Then detractor takes it to another level...sometimes even personal. And the thread goes down the crapper :(

If people (on both sides mind you) would post like how they'd talk in real life. Then threads wouldn't go down that road, it's pretty much identical to how politics and religion based threads would go down the wrong road quick

And unfortunately like Grimlock-13 said, it's just the way of the fandom. So you got to take the good with the bad. All we as members can do is be the type of poster we know is the right way to be....which is the respectful kind

There are those who are here to contribute something of value, and those who are not.

It's usually pretty quick and easy to distinguish which of those groups an individual belongs to - and then the power of the ignore list takes the pain away.

I don't venture out anywhere else for TFs, but I hear it's much, much worse in other places.

The problem is that boards in general are for people who are very passionate about the topic they are talking about and this can lead to very negative comments from those who view what they see or read as an insult to what they believe, whether that is right or wrong. I do see a few negative comments on this forum, and maybe I'm guilt of it from time to time but not to my knowledge, but generally this place is a lot more understanding of differing points of view. At least it is in most parts anyway.

I sometimes view posts on some game sites and those tend to degenerate into a venomous fanboy war quick because some idiot will come in and make some stupid comment to start a flamewar and it gets out of hand quickly. I don't know why but I just don't see that kind of mess here as much, but then again I tend to stay away from the movie threads because of what this topic is about. The problem is that because forums were designed for people to share their opinions and the fact that people have different points of view on any and every topic that someone is going to post something that another person disagrees with and this will at some point lead to conflict.

All we can do is learn to live with each other's differences and if you see something you disagree with either address it or ignore it. If a person annoys you too much just add them to the ignore list, something I don't use because I believe that even someone I totally disagree with can sometimes make a good point. You could always confront them and while it may make the problem worse, and it most certainly will, it may take away some of your frustration. It doesn't hurt to vent sometimes but it is nice to keep it constructive.

That's EXACTLY the reason I don't use the ignore list myself. Because like you said even someone you disagree with can make a good point. A point which would be missed if he/she is blocked

I know what you mean. You gotta have thick skin and tolerance. Some people need to be taken with a grain of salt, while some you may need the whole shaker - especiaslly the movie forum. I just DO NOT post in there :lol

And there is a lot more spamming it seems these days. But the mods are cracking down... must be a real annoyance for our mods with all the BS sometimes.

Way I see it, it's people who I don't know (usually) so, whatever. let 'em make themselves look like asses. :p

Like anything else, the ignore list should be used with discretion. Also, I don't think we're talking about "Bob disagrees with me on whether Rumble is red or blue, so he's going on ignore."

Personally, the folks that have qualified for my ignore list have demonstrated - clearly and often repeatedly - that they are incapable of existing peacefully within a community like this; and in reality the mods usually see these folks off on their way relatively quick anyway.

I'm guilty myself of a snide comment or two, but such is life. I've been on many boards, but this is far and away the friendliest one I've inhabited, which is why I've made it my home away from home. If people are really bugging you, just ignore them (not by adding them to an electronic list, but via the old-fashioned way) or just stay away from such threads.

Another good point, although I have no true prood. I have a sneaking feeling that ignore lists are used like that sometimes.

And yes all the people I would put on ignore either post VERY sparsely or they get banned anyway. So I really have no reason to use it

I have to disagree with the OP, this board is great. It's a hell of a lot more civilized than any other board I visit.

And something like that on teh internets is quite rare indeed.

Sadly enough, I've only added some people that post in the Movie forum to my ignore list. There are just some individuals there that, just the opposite of Shaun's thinking, will never ever post something that has any kind of intelligent thought process attached to it. The occasional stupid sounding pot shot I can handle. Its just some posts there that you know, just by looking at the name of the author, are gonna be unintelligent, pointless, illogical, hate-filled rants.

I find it hard to get offended by people who post, no matter what they say. I actually get a good laugh out of some stupidity sometimes, so I don't ignore anyone. I usually don't reply to flamers though, because that just encourages them and isn't worth it.
