It's just a tag line. Nothing else.

Yeah, it's to differentiate it from the 'First Edition' wave(s).

Plus, I think "Robots in Disguise" will be the first wide release. The "first editions" will be specialty stores ( like Toys R Us and BBTS ).

I don't see why this is so confusing.

TFs having more than one toy is not exactly a new thing.

Also BB is just that popular. At least in Hasbro's opinion.

The first mold was supposed to be released WAAAY earlier. It didn't. Now Hasbro's capitalizing on both molds.

    ...

    1. They're not "new" toys. They're the same toys.

    2. It's not a different toyline. It's the same toyline. Just different packaging.

And Hasbro is doing it because they want to. They're launching a new toyline, so obviously they need to give it a good marketing push.

The intention was that Prime wasn't going to have a full line right off the bat, so Hasbro had the 'First Edition' versions made to be part of the Generations line & were as such scheduled for release at the beginning of 2011....then plans changed!

Or so the story goes. :)

The differences with the figures are likely due to the same things that made TFTM & ROTF leader Optimus so different: they design a figure, then work out how to build upon & do it better after a while; so take another crack at it.

My guess is that the first edition was suppose to come out months ago as season 1's toy line but had to take the back seat for the DOTM toyline. Then first edition became delayed to the point were the RID line is in reality season 2 of the tf prime toy line and first edition are molds that they already completed and might as well release. Make sense?

    Taglines.

Believe it or not but RTS and HFTD are actually Taglines. The real line was called TF: 2010.

Actually the real line was just called Transformers. TF: 2010 was the Japanese line. (G1 season three took place in 2010 in Japan)
