I opened up my First Edition Prime Starscream with the intent of removing and silver-sharpie-ing the nosecone, and found this:

I wonder if they originally intended to make the cockpit clear but decided against due to cost...

Upon closer examination, the other half of the cockpit is a separate piece from the rest of his stomach/torso area. But it's definitely not trans-clear-ant plastic.

That's badass. That's gonna look awesome if they do a translucent repaint or a figure that would use translucence there.

    Cost wouldn't be an issue.

It's usually just a matter of options. Might not be a feature relevant immediately, but if they were to pursue a redeco in the future, it remains an open possibility.

Just like how you'll sometimes see painted-over light-piping blocks, or light-piping blocks molded in opaque plastic. It's just that the colour layouts might not have worked out in their original usage, but it still leaves room open in the future to revisit the gimmick.

    nice find

if it did, it'd be just as bad as airachnid with the sacrifices they'd make to the rest of it :p

Well now that's interesting. I wonder why they decided to go with solid plastic for the cockpit instead? Of course it's not the first time it's happened but I still find it strange, ah well.
