OK I'm just about back to where I was with printing on the old grey filament, now in darker grey. To give you guys an idea this is about half of the pieces needed and this is what the kit will look like. This has zero sanding or anything, straight off the printer.

Putting this together has given me a good idea what it will be like for others and I've been making adjustments to the model to make things easier, not only from the standpoint of actually putting it together but also in making instructions. I have spent a lot of time creating this project and I want the end result to look good for everyone.

This is where I was when I ran out of filament. Got all the panels installed and was going to start sanding. I'll probably keep this for myself and just paint it.

Interesting, the printed parts looks almost like molded.

    Thank you!

I'm actually quite pleased considering pics of most printed parts that circulate. If I zoom in you'll see print lines, but overall it's really nice.

I know what you mean. 3D printers keep popping up and disappearing every other month it seems. It's a very quickly evolving market. I like my printer. It is not without fault though. However, I don't think any of them are unless you were to get a giant industrial printer. Check out the Solidoodle Google Group and soliforum.com to see what kind of comments people have and post questions. I think the greatest challenge for this printer is the lead time from when you order. They've just had a lot of orders to fulfill.

That's cool but not the trailer from Transformers: Prime. Also, when it's all said & done, the trailer Big Hache has designed is quite affordable.

I'm not disputing his work in any way. It's without the doubt great. I just posted the alternative, that's all.

And if it does come out great I'll be interested. For this and DOTM.

    Well I hope I don't disappoint. :)

Thanks! Merry Christmas and happy New Year to you as well!

The only option I have right now is print them to order, which does have one cool benefit (see below). My goal is to eventually take projects to resin casting but I'm still looking for a job. Kind of important to have for funding hobbies, along with paying rent. Pfff! Responsibilities...

It seems like with every type of project that last 10% is 90% of the actual work. Here are most of the pieces for the initial prototype. Finally nearing completion to be able to print this sucker out that can be easily assembled by someone other than me.

And here is the surprise and benefit of being able to print one by one...

Each piece will feature my signature in relief, along with the production number. 001 and 002 are already spoken for. This is why I took the time to go back and note everyone who expressed interest and started a list. After 001 goes out the door and I begin production on 002, I will PM those at the top of the list for pre-orders.

For now because I think this will be easiest, I will photograph the assembly process and post it here for those that want a kit. I would like to actually create an instruction set but I'll start small.

Awesome, when you figure you'll need payment? I'm tapped out until next Thursday due to union payments and reissue fp bruticus, but definitely still want in on this

No problem. Not for a couple of weeks I'm thinking. I still have to re-engineer the hinges as the original plan, while a good idea, wasn't practical to print.
