I saw a new Takara Masterpiece figure of Starscream in an UK store today – the same as this guy …

    http://seibertron.com/toys/fullsize.php?id=1041&size=1&image=143

… but in a different kind of box, and the figure is much more true to Starscream's original G1 colours. I assume this is a new release – the figure was certainly brand-new. Beautiful set, and an import of course, but … £90? (This is currently equivalent to $179.30 US.) Is this the normal price for a Masterpiece figure of this kind? Seems pretty extortionate.

He's talking about Hasbro's MP Starscream.

It was a Wal-mart exclusive here in the States and sold for $50. You can get them at BBTS for about $95 before shipping, so I'd say get it from there or ebay, as the price in the UK is absolutely ridiculous.

Just out of interest, which store did you see it in? Could be good news if it's getting a general release in the UK.

No, this is definitely NOT a Hasbro product. The box, which is an upright bubble-type one, has "TakaraTomy" on it. The store had two in stock. The store is Forbidden Planet in Sheffield – I'd imagine that FP stores in London and elsewhere will have similar stock. If it's still in the window when I'm next up there, I'll photograph it.

It's the US Edition Masterpiece Starscream. Takara Tomy released the Hasbro version of MP SS in Japan without the mold modifications (When Hasbro released it, they ever so slightly rounded the sharp points on the tail fins) and added a Decepticon symbol on the nosecone. They used the Hasbro box and it's identical to the Hasbro toy other than the 2 differences I listed and they slapped a sticker on that indicates it's a US Edition.

Yes, these guys know there stuff. That is way over priced though, I'd ebay it or go the BBTS route.

Blimey. The complications. I mainly collected TF from Autumn 1984 to May 1988, and have only recently started again. Back then, there was (or at least seemed to be) pretty much just one version of each character. I think I preferred it that way. Anyway, here he is.

    Ebay:
Sucks $100 for something that was $50 in Walmart last year. I would like to get another Starscream I can not justify spending and addional 50 plus shipping on this. Is there a possiblilty of wamart restocking this?

    BOTCON question I guess.
