IDW Publishing has finally released (a day after their other titles preview pages) their 5 page preview of tomorrows The Transformers: Spotlight - Hot Rod, the 3rd issue is the 5 issue series.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE TRANSFORMERS: SPOTLIGHT - HOT ROD (3 of 5)

    Publisher:
    IDW Publishing
    Writers: Simon Furman
    Pencils: Nick Roche
    Covers: Nick Roche, James Raiz

Continuing a series of one-shots focusing on some of the best-loved (or loathed) characters from the TRANSFORMERS Universe. This month, the spotlight falls on HOT ROD, as the daredevil Autobot undertakes a solo mission firmly filed and stamped: impossible! But what is the Magnificence, and how does it all connect with HOT ROD's first- disastrous-mission? By Simon Furman (The Transformers: Stormbringer) and Nick Roche (Transformers Spotlight: Shockwave). Veteran TF artist James Raiz provides a variant cover, too.

I know its not real robot-like but I love that smile on Hot Rod's face. Who are those other bots? The one looks like Doubledealer.

I really like Roche's style. It's got more character in it than, dare I say, even Don's?!
This actually looks like a lot of fun, despite HotRod's bad rep.

I love it! Looove the art. I especially like Hot Rod, he looks just like what he is, a young kid who thinks he's hot shit haha. Can't wait for it to come out

    Prediction time!

ZOMG Dealer is really... DOUBLEDEALER! And he betrays them all and ruins the mission and Hot Rod blames himself for it and is the only one to get out alive. The guilt, the guilt.

To each his own, of course, but I dig the redesign.

I really like what I see of the art in general. Roche did the Shockwave Spotlight, too, right? I think I'm liking this better so far. (Not that Shockwave had bad art.)

Wish I could buy comics online...I love it.

One question though. who's the black guy with the red missiles in alt mode? He looks like TF Victory Jaruga.

    Dealer!
Yeah, I like pretty much all of the current TF artists for different reasons, but Roche gets the energy of old Marvel UK stuff into his work.

Could well be. I don't know the series in question, but the artist does cover work for Metrodome (who've been releasing the Japanese shows in the UK.)

It better be someone with a toy. Out of the hundreds of Transformers, there's just no reason to create generics. They are well designed generics but they're still generics. Even if they die in this issue, I'd still rather see an actual G1 character used even the most obscure Japanese G1 character is better.

But yeah. I'm gonna read it and enjoy it.

    Great to see Doubledealer back.

Gah, that design is atrocious! Before I saw the pics I was going to say they finally did something that'll make me go out and buy TF comics, but after looking at the art... nope, don't think so.
