IDW Publishing has released their 5-page previews for books coming out next week (December 20th). Among them are the next installments to the Spotlight and Escalation series. Enjoy!

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE TRANSFORMERS: ESCALATION #2 (of 6)

    Publisher:
    IDW Publishing
    Writers: Simon Furman
    Pencils: E.J. Su
    Covers: E.J. Su, Klaus Scherwinski

    Part 2 of 6
The shocking events of last issue leave the AUTOBOTS reeling. Their number diminished by one, they struggle to come to terms with the whys and wherefores of the Lebanon interception. Similarly, the two humans still standing want answers... and action! And, as if this wasn't enough to contend with, the true, staggering scope of the DECEPTICON Infiltration gambit is revealed! The The Transformers: Infiltration team of Simon Furman and E.J. Su continues the ongoing tale. Artist Klaus Scherwinski will provide a variant cover for each issue, too.

THE TRANSFORMERS: SPOTLIGHT - SIX SHOT (4 of 5)

    Publisher:
    IDW Publishing
    Writers: Simon Furman
    Pencils: Rob Ruffolo
    Covers: Rob Ruffolo, James Raiz

    Part 4 of 5
Continuing a series of one-shots focusing on some of the best-loved (or loathed) characters from the TRANSFORMERS Universe. This month, the spotlight falls on SIXSHOT, as the DECEPTICONS' living weapon- teetering on the edge of a potentially catastrophic mental breakdown- goes in search of the TERRORCONS, the mysterious Reapers and, perhaps, redemption. Written by Simon Furman and featuring pencils, inks, and colors by Rob Ruffolo. James Raiz once again provides a variant cover.

    Thanks, Primal!

Unfortunately, looks like there's a bit more physics defying oging on with Sixshot's chest wings in the interior of the book -- at least on page one. Ruffolo's art otherwise looks quite good, though. Leaps and bounds beyond DW's Micromasters, certainly. And -- ooh, Terrorcons!

And Su continues to blow me away on Escalation! I'm going to have a hard time choosing which cover to buy, though, because that Scherwinski one looks great, too. Ironhide's holographic avatar is VERY fitting.

    Sweet.

So, why am I guessing that both the Senator and the General are now Decepticon replicants?

Soo... is there going to be an Escalation B&W #2 [through 6] or was it just a #1 special? Or did you/they just not show the preview...

Anyway... those look good. Especially Escalation. Loving the IDW universe soooo much.

I believe it was just for issue 1. Midtown Comics/Graham Crackers Comics doesn't have a B&W edition listed and there are no solicitations on IDWs website for any.

Well. That sucks if true. I was hoping to get the complete set in B&W. I guess that'll have to wait till the Manga version release, then.

Sixshot's one shot looks very cool. I hope that we'll see this series continue.

Sunstreaker's looking a little the worse for wear. Maybe Ratchet can rebuild him a more up to date vehicle mode. They quit making Diablos years ago. (Though, I still preffer the Countach.)

They better not do anything to Wheeljack. >_>

Master question: Is that really Sunstreaker that got blown up? :)

I'm loving the Escalation cover with the destroyed Sunstreaker.

This increases my feeling that Hunter's still alive. I'm betting Sunstreaker ejected him out of the car at the last second or protected him somehow. Ironhide says that he must have died, but he doesn't say he is dead.

I'm guessing either Optimus and the others find him when they get to the scene, or possibly those mercs found and captured him. Either way, he's probably hurt pretty bad.

Gryph, its more likely that a fake was blown up rather than sunstreaker himself.

One key scene to prove this is that the real Sunstreaker had an immobiliser attached to him in one panel then in the next it wasn't there as he was targeted and blown up.

...and regarding spotlights, i love them all (although of varying amounts) but i do hope they start tying the spotlights into the main storyline soon. otherwise it seems like they are out of place and pointless.

Pains me to say it, but after seeing these I'm going to be dropping the IDW TF comics. The story is unravelling too slowly for me, and the artwork lacks the detail and realism I enjoyed so much in the Dreamwave run. Worse still, I don't feel any connection with or interest in the human characters, or what happens to them. And there's a general silliness about the whole thing I don't care for (the Ratchet/Sunstreaker cover, for example).

Stinks for me - it's the only comic I read, and I just can't get excited about it anymore.

    :lol

    oh you're serious

    to each his own :p
i never saw anything drawn "realistically" under the DW banner, especially under the alt mode side of things
but i see what you mean about the detail part. nothing EJs drawn is as overdetailed as the Dreamwave stuff.

but im sorry to hear you're wanting to drop the title now
    you'll be missing out i'm sure ;)

What "detail an realism" are you talking about? Metal that has five million cracks in it, as if it shattered like glass? Optimus Prime transforming into Pat Lee's rendition of THS-02 G1 Convoy with giant window frames? Bumblebee transforming into giant feet and a small roof on wheels?

Su's Transformers at least look like they can actually transform into vehicles you can find on this planet.
