HARVEY COMICS CLASSICS VOLUME 1: CASPER THE FRIENDLY GHOST TP

    Publisher:
    Dark Horse Comics
    By: Leslie Cabarga

It's amazing how many comics fans who grew up admiring Spiderman, Batman, and Nick Fury still retain warm places in their hearts for Casper the Friendly Ghost. Now Dark Horse is delighted to participate in the revival of Casper, who remains among the most beloved of cartoon and comic book icons. Casper the Friendly Ghost made his first appearance as a star of Paramount's Famous Cartoons in 1947 and entered the comics in 1949. But after five issues, publisher St. John's gave up the title. That's when Harvey Comics stepped in, and where this book begins. Harvey breathed life into Casper, and from the very first issue, the cover designs, stories, and artwork-drawn by the same animators who worked on the cartoons-were a cut above.

Harvey Comics Classics Volume 1: Casper contains over 100 of Casper's very best stories, from the beginning of the Harvey series in 1952 through the classic years of the mid-1960s. The art is reproduced from crisp black-and-white printer's proofs and original artwork from the old Harvey archives, along with sixty four pages of color meticulously restored from the original comic books. The book includes a comprehensive introduction illustrated with historic memorabilia.

SCREW HEAVEN, WHEN I DIE I'M GOING TO MARS TP

    Publisher:
    Dark Horse Comics
    By: Shannon Wheeler

For longer than a decade Shannon Wheeler's flagship character Too Much Coffee Man has cast his tender, cynical gaze on lots of stuff that deserves to be made fun of, from the insipidity of coffee consumer culture to the horrendous reality of dating. This latest collection of short cartoons takes a step back from the cartoonist's usual scrutiny of mundane pettiness and takes a somewhat sweeter look at life's bigger issues. The result is the funniest, most sharply executed collection of Wheeler's comics ever.

    Pencils: C.P. Smith
Covers: C.P. Smith, Ethan Van Sciver (Incentive)

    Part 1 of 12
From the brilliant mind of critically acclaimed writer Peter Milligan (X-Statix, SHADE THE CHANGING MAN, JLA CLASSIFIED) and with the incredible art of C.P. Smith (Punisher, Wolverine) comes a tale a half century in the making!

In 1991, the Cold War ended without the two primary players ever facing each other in direct conflict. The vast arsenals of democracy and communism were put on ice, and the world moved toward a new millennium. While the U.S.S.R. disintegrated, the United States rose to unchallenged dominance…but now a long-forgotten Soviet weapon is awakened on one of America's many battlegrounds, threatening the global balance of power. Conventional warfare is suddenly outdated: the new weapons of mass destruction wield super-powers.

Does America have an answer to...The Programme?

A team of Stark-branded and created super heroes, these young actors, athletes and models are infused with tremendous powers and even more tremendous fame, reborn as the First Super Hero Team of Tomorrow™ -- THE ORDER. Here the same ol'-same ol' means hooking up at the Standard, drinks at SkyBar and a death-duel on Sunset Blvd. against some villain too stupid to realize that, in Hollywood, the good guys always win. The catch: you can be fired at any point along the way. And every inch of your life will be subjected to intense public scrutiny. And if you survive all that for a whole year, you'll face mandatory retirement. And there's no guarantee you'll live to see that retirement. If you had one year to save the world, what would you do?

    Hypnotic gestures.
    Fancy clothes.
    Lovely assistants.

These things may make the magician, but science makes the magic.

Levitation tells the amazing true story of the most dazzling illusion ever performed on stage, and features a cast of characters that seems too good to be true: The Scientist: John Neville Maskelyne, the oh-so-proper British magician and the trick's inventor. The American: Harry Kellar couldn't buy the illusion, so he found another way to get it. The Inventor: Guy Jarrett, the rough-and-tumble engineer who perfected the illusion. The Heir: Howard Thurston, the handsome and charismatic performer who inherited the act from Kellar and then, according to Kellar, ruined it.

Or did he? Join us on stage and behind it and learn not only how to defy gravity, but why people believed you could.

Psychologists know best, of course, and in the 1950s they warned parents about the dangers of too much love. Besides, what was 'love' anyway? Just a convenient name for children seeking food and adults seeking sex. It took an outsider scientist to challenge this. When Harry Harlow began his experiments on mother love he was more than just outside the mainstream, though. He was a deeply unhappy man who knew in his gut the truth about what love -- and its absence -- meant, and set about to prove it. His experiments and results shocked the world.
