this was my first color project and the first time I used photo shop to do colors from a standard line art drawing. I had a friends show me how to use the layers in photo shop and i did the rest, the line art came from Deviant artist Hansime. :)

not bad, but the choice of background doesn't work - if the light was directly behind him like that then he would be silhouetted against it

a bit more contrast would help too, looks like you wany him to be very shiny (relflective by the looks of the wings) so highlights should go almost if not all the way to white, and shadows all the way to black. examples -

    hope that helps!

technique all looks good but best tip is definitely to think carfully about light sources.. get hold of a toy and point a couple of lamps at it, then turn off the main light in the room, that'll show you where the shadows would be, how strong they would be etc

remember to this was my very first time doing this and my first time using photoshop so its a learning process. I have had no schooling for this and no one to teach me any of this so i have to learn with each time I do something. the background was just something to keep it from looking blank to. I am also not looking to be perfect just to enjoy transformers.

of course of course, don't worry!

what you've got so far is a good start, especially for a first try with photoshop.. as you say you learn with each time you do something so this is just some constructive tips to help with your next go.
