Finally got to watch this last night. It was pretty good, especially Mo'nique, who totally deserves the Oscar for best supporting actress. But the movie itself was not best picture material in my opinion. Like I said, it was good, but it felt like the kind of movie that I'm obliged to like and praise because it's a about a fat, ugly, underprivileged black girl who "rises up" and "overcomes" her circumstances. I feel like society will beat me in the face if I don't say that it's "amazing" and "powerful" and "inspirational". Not too shabby though. Probably a 7.5 or 8 out of 10.
