Finally got to watch this last night. It was pretty good, especially Mo'nique, who totally deserves the Oscar for best supporting actress. But the movie itself was not best picture material in my opinion. Like I said, it was good, but it felt like the kind of movie that I'm obliged to like and praise because it's a about a fat, ugly, underprivileged black girl who "rises up" and "overcomes" her circumstances. I feel like society will beat me in the face if I don't say that it's "amazing" and "powerful" and "inspirational".
Not too shabby though. Probably a 7.5 or 8 out of 10.

I kinda feel the same way about it, but becuase of who produced it. I want to see the movie, but I dont want to hear how great Oprah is for bringing this to viewers

I live in Austin Texas, the season of SXSW is upon us, as in the persecution of folks who don't like hippie movies, so I know how you feel.

    I still say they suck.

Not so much this one, because I haven't seen it, but hippie movies in general.

Precious is a "hippie movie"? I see.
