If you reread the article again, it's the author who says it was last minute, but Knight did not say anything about it being last minute. All he said is that it wasn't in script. Big difference.

 

Yeah, this proves what most of us have been saying all along. The film was originally supposed to be a full-blown prequel (although, having a G1-like Megatron is weird), but the powers that be decided to remove some connections to the first film and make this one more like a reboot leading them to call it a “preboot.”

 

The article I read, I thought said they just through the name in there at the end..seemed odd but that's what I recall but after what @Music just said it seems the article was deceiving

 

They might have removed him because even if it was a full blown prequel, or in it's current state even, having g1 megatron would just be so out of place, especially since he has been frozen for hundreds of years. And then if it is a prequel, having him look g1 then look like he does in 07 would just confuse people even more especially considering he is frozen in place.

 

And there it is like I said it: the movie was SHOT as a prequel, but reshoots turned into a reboot.

Damn, the original sounds better to me with the exception of the appliance bots.

Huh, interesting stuff. I hope we get to see the appliance robots at some point, as well as the Megatron design.

 

So basically all this would've made the movie seem more connected with the 2007 one.

 

It might turn out that the whole reason behind the release date b
eing pushed back to December 2018 is that they had to reshoot and change a lot of stuff since they decided to turn it into a reboot.

 

There was a tie-in comic for Bumblebee that has him on Earth in the 1960s (Transformers Bumblebee Movie Prequel: From Cybertron With Love by John Barber | PenguinRandomHouse.com: Books).

Man, I hope the art for what Megatron would have looked like pops up in the DVD somewhere.

 

Hopefully some of the cut and reshoot stuff will be included as extras on the home releases. That's one thing that was never included with the Bay movies.

They actually had a bunch of practical effects to make the appliances come to life combined with finished cgi I think. so it was a pretty complete sequence.

So pretty neat and I hope it makes its way onto the blu-ray.

Shatter and Dropkick just happened to be on the moon and receive the signal from bee. Cliffjumper wasn't there at all.

 

It makes me think that Lorenzo wants to save his legacy but trying deny any possible reboot. Good that Hasbro has creative control now.

As far as I could tell they were hunting down Bee because he was a transformer and they had the history from the original timeline going to match it up as a prequel. The finished version's reason is much more interesting and cohesive in my opinion.
