Since I saw this mold I have been wanting to do this custom.

The stickers came from Cobrastickers, and well, they are stickers. So they tend to stick out like a sore thumb, but I think they top off the figure nicely. As you can see he has some additional arsenal that I had left over from an old A-10 model as well as some extra decals.

I guess a better representation would have been to make him look like Wild Weasel, but then he would just look like powerglide. Although a red powerglid with black COBRA symbols would look cool... maybe another time. I just wanted him to resemble the common COBRA infantry.

The figure itself will not be getting transformed very often, it has horrible rub problems and even after coating him in several coats of paint, future, then dull cote, he still manages to get a few nicks into him. Just a pain.

The figure also suffered an injury and I'm not sure if anyone else has had this problem. When I was trying to fold his wing up once, the whole assembly snapped off his waist. I had to fuse it back together, but I'm still weary of that spot. Another pain.

All in all, I'm happy with the way he turned out. His color is Tamiya Royal Blue if you are curious with some metallics and flat red mixed in. I also painted over his thrust things and eyes with clear red. I had intended to do this to the canopy too, but when I took the masking tape off, I liked that it was orange.

Yeah, that was one of the things I was trying to mimic and luckily he had the mouth guard to allow for that.

Thanks for the compliments everyone, I'm just glad to get something finished. Its been months since I finished anything.

    Love it!

That blue paint application looks GREAT in Rattler mode. Good stuff. I have this figure, and I've had a hard time getting to love the robot mode, but you've done wonders for it here with the repainting alone.

Maybe the missiles on the wingtips also help give his shoulders a little more presence.

Good job! And yeah, I love the orange cockpit. Good call.

This is exactly what I was going to say. I LOVE this custom and I'm still surprised we haven't gotten any G.I.Joe/TF crossover toys yet . . .

    GREAT job :thumb

Oh, yeah. This works so well, and frankly I think this looks so much better than any of the actual versions of the mould we've seen so far. I love the mask effect you've applied to it; but would it have been feasible to mod the head to make it look less pointy? I must admit, that's one of the things that puts me right off this mould.

I don't think I've ever seen the winged Cobra logo before - does that literally just represent their air arm? And are you aware that Reprolabels does standard Cobra labels too (also on a clear sheet)?

Possibly, but I didn't look that much into it. The screw is fairly close to the top and you have to deal with the light bulb inside if you still wanted it to light up, but I assume you could still take a little edge off.

Yes and no. The rattler was, to my knowledge, the only one to use that version of the Cobra Air Force emblem, the other planes just had regular cobra symbols. Since I wanted him to look like the orginal rattler, I used the same symbols that appeared on the original toy.

I know reprolables has cobra symbols and I actually ordered some for other projects, but I was wanted the winged version, and I found those at Cobra Stickers. I would have rather had the combo symbol of the Cobra and Decepticon, but neither place had those and the decals I have tried to make in the past did not turn out very nice.

Fair play. The mould hasn't appealed to me enough to get it, so I wasn't aware of the high screw and internal lighting.
