Interesting - I wonder if the back of the box details the gimics ? I also wonder if the character that looks a bit like Drift or Getaway has anything to do with this gimic. My first impression is that it's a deluxe packed in robot mode not a scout. The two piece legs suggest deluxe and the ball jointed elbows also suggest it's no bigger than a deluxe. I wonder if they light up or if the companions are interchangable... so you can use different guns and such. The ironic thing is the gimic seems really similar to that recently shown Fan Made Rumble-alike. It also reminds me of talk that was about in the pre-production phase of Transformers Animated so it looks like they have revisited an idea that was previously on hold. Anyway looks quiet promising. and very much the sort of play pattern I like.
All the translucent plastic in Caliburst makes me curious if there is an LED in Huffer to light him up... but that might be a bit expensive... looks like Huffer is a pseudo-Scout with Caliburst as a pseudo-Minicon, so the package is a deluxe??
I dunno why, but seeing this gives me the same excited feeling I got when new toys came out in the 80s. I like most of the Movie designs, though think the toys don;t do enough of them justice, and though I enjoyed Animated as a series, the cartoon world style just didn't work for me. Even Classics/Universe I thought were just 'ok'. Interested to see what the new line is - from the packaging, they're just going to be marketed as 'Transformers'.
A quick google search find this courious comment from November : Not sure if it jells with what is shown or not though.
Looks too earthy to be from the WFC game at first site anyways This things looks kind of cool. Not totally sold on it yet. I have a Huffer in my Classics diplay and the targetmaster kind of turns me off to be honest. Just never been a huge fan of minicon partner types. Now if it can be a weapon in vehicle and robot mode I'm down
I like Hero Optimus Prime.... the chest area reminds me a little of a Motorvator too. I was thinking in a broader sense as to what the overall line theme is - they don't always really give you that much info... take mechalive for example many toys have not a word on it on the packaging and only mention it in the instructions if at all - I don't think 'attack modes' or sort of after thought modes like Mixmaster has are always shown either. We got a description for Energon saying that the Autobots "Powerlink"... on the deluxe but you might not get that much explanation of Energon stars and weapons until you watch the TV show really. Lots of toys still retained mini-con posts or holes but made no mention of what they were for as an example. Recent Minicon toys make no mention at all that they are supposed to stick onto bigger toys - leaving some new to Transformers fans oblivious to that function. But with luck the back of box should provide some further clues to the overall line gimics or any other combination or compatibilities it has. Maybe even a crosssell for another character. Perhaps the computer systems for Walmart / TRU Etc... may have the info on the line specifics before to long too.
but but but...all i see is cardboard...inside the packaging >_< i want to see more but i'm definitely liking this new line of Powercore Combiners
That block part shown on the front of the box could be a 6 sided combiner block allowing connection between various pieces (bit like 'Cubix' blocks). It also might just be a tiny battery box for a possible light up function, or simply what the docking point for the smaller figures happens to look like. If it is a tiny electronic piece and they don't combine to any greater extent than an Aramda Transformer and a mini-con (I.e gestalt robot or limbs for the larger robots) id still be interested in them though. If they combine or do more stuff that would be great that would make them be very fun to play with (I'm thinking of Microman '99 toys like Dean & Endevour & the Giant Acroyear or Brave toys a bit here too)- if they are just normal transformers with a slight Targetmaster like add on then that is also grand as they will look better with the "classics" toys if that is the case. So either way i'm happy really. I wonder if part of the feeling behind this gimic is the long running love some people have for mini-cons and also how positive the response was to Cyclonus & Nightstick. the Caliburst toy looks quite similar to Nightstick in a general sense. Perhaps Hasbro might consider offering us another Galvatron as part of this line or G1 Scourge, Slugslinger,Triggerhappy, Misfire or indeed powermaster characters like Getaway - those might be nice way to link back to the past and especially so if the gimic works in a similar way at all. Not that I'm at all disapointed by Huffer. Nice chunky looking vehicle mode too.
