Fort Max had always been a bit of a grail for this UK TF Fan, what with him not being released in the ol' kingdom, and so, of course, I leapt feet first at TR Max...and then the SDCC version dropped with a treasure trove of additional sticker detailing that, frankly, I got quite jealous of!
Though I didn't like the grimey shin cannons and, with him in hand already, I had a whole lot of ideas springing up about what I would want specifically from an upgrade which was a mix of complementing the new slightly different colour layout to G1 as well as bringing in G1 details that I had fetishised since my youth like the repair bay and jail cell which, thanks to the Metroplex leg swap, could go in the G1-accurate correct legs!
Alas no other upgrade set offered what I wanted but my ideas were fixed! I really wanted to get them done...somehow?
Much experimentation, learning, research & sourcing later and here we are with my custom printed sticker set applied, behold FORTRESS...MAXIMUS!!!

Are you able to provide some insight into how you made custom sticker sheets for yourself? Always been curious how its done.

    Cheers,

Learning about how stickers are actually printed led me from GIMP, to Photoshop and ended up finding myself getting a grounding in Illustrator. It's the same as graphic designing any image for 4-colour printing (or CMYK if you want to term technically) but with the addition of having to map out the physical aspect of the cut edges.
I didn't make the stickers myself in the physical sense, though I designed and mapped & measured out the cutlines (with a little help from starting out with a high quality scanned image of metroplex's sticker sheet I found online), with the aid of some fellow UK Fans who were willing to chip in for their own copies I was able to commission a short run from a professional printers. To do it yourself you'd need to have the cash to punt for a high end commercial industrial digital printer, plus the materials and inks.

Wait, what's this about a leg swap with Metroplex?

(those stickers are spectacular. What does the giant one on his crotch say?)

If you look where the trench is on the front of Max's right leg, you'll see that's a vestigial trace of where Metroplex had the crane arm on his fight deck which was on his left leg, the lower legs are on the opposite sides on Max. Sorry, I wasn't referring to having made a leg swap but that's what has happened as part of the remoulding/reuse.

Big red door says "CARGO BAY" & "03" with "KEEP CLEAR" at the bottom, 01 & 02 are the two red side airlocks which the rectangular stickers next to them state.

So you designed the stickers/sticker sheet and had a print shop do it after giving them the files? I was wondering how the heck you got the stickers so damn shiny (I went back over and caught even more detailed goodness in your pics and that's when I noticed how reflective they are, almost mirror like). :D  Far as I know, it's really hard to get that kinda of clarity on that type of sheet on a home printer.

Yes, they are on silver metallic stock like the Hasbro stock stickers, they can actually look pretty dark when they aren't in direct lighting but when at an angle where the light hits 'em? BLING!

@Shepard Prime I should probably also mention that if you get the wrong angle direct light, for example taking photos with a flash too dead on, they can glare at "ARGH! MY EYES!!!" levels. ;)

Thanks for the info, I assumed you used some sort of graphic designing app to make the sheets, was more curious on the printing aspect. They looked to good to be printed at home, but one can hope!

I hear ya, I'd love to be home-printing stickers but the best medium to print on and the printers with the means to print on it are still the means of the professionals, to my knowledge.

    Some belated Max addendums!
Looking at my Max gallery (with a weird sort-of parent's pride) I realised his thighs looked a bit bland round the back of city mode still but with the addition of 4 spare window stickers they now look like proper SF corridors to be frantically run along!
    [IMG] [IMG]

And the Outside of the prison needed...well, something, despite being mostly happy with it's windowless brutalism, then I realised one of his Big Brother Is Watching You "Titan Eyes" from inside the prison by either entrances was the final touch!
    [IMG] [IMG]

I wasn't sure it would work on that hinge above the "Main Entrance" but, though there is a chance of eventual wear, there's juuuuuuuust enough clearance that it doesn't catch and get scraped off when you open the leg, so YAY!

I still can't get over this set. I sort of want you to go in w/Reprolabels and make it available for the rest of us jerks.
