Are the 'Battle Masters' what they are calling the updated 'Micromasters'?

Battle Masters are replacing the Prime Masters.

But what exactly are they is my question? Are they what the original G1 micromasters were except for a 3rd weapon mode?

No, Micromasters are Micromasters. What Battlemasters are are little dudes or animals that turn into weapons like the old Targetmaster and Actionmaster weapons. They're at the Titan/Primemaster price point.

    That's half of it.

As the others have already said, the Battlemasters are the G1 Targetmasters and the Action Master weapon/animal partners; they will occupy the "Master" class that was introduced in Titans Return. Actually, the Targetmasters have already been released; they were available with their respective partners in the Japanese release of Titans Return toys under the Legends line.

The Micromasters are exactly that; updates of the Micromasters. Unlike the originals, the updates will be sold in packs of two - rather than packs of four - replacing the traditional "Legend" class. Also unlike the originals, each set of two will be able to combine into a large weapon.

Man, just got the Toyhax sticker set for POTP OP, and holy scrap, it's mind blowing. I honestly didn't think I could like the figure any more than I already did... But I was wrong. I love this.

Oh, and I finally got a second Blackwing.

I absolutely love this. And the fun part is, they can split up and combine to form two super-jets! A combiner made from combiners!

Sadly he only figures I truly "appreciate" from this line are the Terrorcon's (Not Hun-Grrr though), Beachcomber, Tailgate, Slash, Battletrap, Dreadwind and Blackwing.

The Dinobots are lackluster (too small with a lame gimmick) placeholders as are the Fembots. Plus I skipped all the Leader class and won't buy Predaking unless I find him on sale at Ollie's next year.

New arrival! These guys are massive in hand, particularly Torox and Headstrong. Combiner kibble isn't nearly as bothersome as you'd think.

I noticed today that my Rippersnapper's fin-peg for the combined mode hand is cracked! Seems weird since I've only had him in combined form a couple of times, but it's pretty thin plastic. I did briefly have the PE hands from my Bruticus in him at one point, so I'm pretty sure those ever-so-slightly too large pegs are the culprit. I threw one of the $10 ones into my Pile of Loot at BBTS for whenever I next order something from them, so whenever it pops completely I'm prepared. While it's frustrating since I just got the other three in yesterday, the peg still functions for the time being, so I suppose it's not the worst thing to happen.

As a set, the Terrorcons are probably my second favorite of the official combiners I own, UW Devastator is a thing of beauty but Abominus wonderfully horrible. I like to angle up Sinnertwin and Cutthroat's beast mode heads in combined mode to give him knee-mouths. Blot is made out of the absolute prettiest colors of plastic.

i Still say Rampage should have been something else. A combiner team is best when it's diverse. Two cats? Why? I think instead he should have been a wolf! just a thought..
