These two are my favorite Deluxes from PotP right now, with the caveat that I immediately combined all of the Terrorcons into Abominus upon opening them and haven't really played around with them individually. Gonna try and do that tonight after dinner. :D

The Terrorcons are so cool by themselves, even though I want them combined I would love to just have them sitting separately in their monster modes too.

Hopefully someone makes an OS KO or something of them so I can have an excuse to get another set!

So, I was wanting to get an extra Vortex to have Bruticus separate and wanted to keep Rippersnapper for Hun-Grr/my Liege Maximo Combiner, but something just went down today. What do you guys think of Rippersnapper joining Galvatronus with Shuttle Blast Off, Dreadwind, and Darkwing?

I did not realize that my POTP collection was so Decepticon heavy.

Galvatronus can use whatever limb he pleases!

Ever since seeing that kind of flavor tagline for a combiner that suddenly made him the most versatile and the 'fun' one.

Finally took the Terrorcons apart and messed with them. They're all pretty awesome and I especially like the Deluxes. Hun-gurrr would be better if he came with a gun that was also big enough for Abominus to use.

I am, however, glad that we got what we got.

Not sure who is my favorite of the lot just yet. I want to say Cutthroat, since he is the only one that I had as a kid, but the roc's (bird) head comes off if you look at it funny. This is unfortunately true for both of my copies.

    20180708_213953.jpg

So I probably have to lean towards Blot. He's all around solid, looks cool, and the conversion works just fine.

    20180708_234233.jpg

Abominus is pretty kick-@$$ too, at least from the front. I'd say he's the best combiner that we've gotten out of PotP, but I don't have Predaking yet.

Whoever decided that a skeleton in a samurai suit was a good idea for a Pretender shell deserves a bloody medal. I'm a total sucker for Bludgeon. He has to be Furman's last great bit of character work from the TF:UK comics, right? A zen sadist with a warriors code (I was too young to recognise this as a hideous cliche) who featured in many of the best post 'Time Wars' issues of the UK comics. Whether he was hunting Carnivac, and killing Catilla, or driving Inferno insane by simply sitting silently, he was cool as fuck. i never quite bought into him as Decepticon leader at the end of the US comics. He just seemed a little too...off centre to be in a position like that.

I don't remember ever seeing any of the '89 Pretenders in the shops. A friend had Doubleheader so I know we definitely got them. Maybe that's why an original Bludegon always seemed to go for silly money on the modern secondary market; the toy just wasn't that available.

Or maybe it's because he's a ridiculously awesome and stupid looking design. And he really is. A Skeleton wearing bright orange armour and purple samurai helmet. Of course he was the leader of the '89 Pretneders. As if anyone was going to give that job to Stranglehold.

But I should pause there to note one thing, all the '89 Pretenders are really small. While the shells are maybe just under a head shorter then their '88 counterparts, the inner bots are nearly half the size of the '88 robots. And much, much more simplified. Yes, it's a sign of the budget inevitably being tightened, but it's still disappointing.

So, with that acknowledged let's consider Bludgeon's inner bot on it's own terms.

Robot does little to distinguish itself.the face sculpt is so vague it's not even got a nose or a mouth. And I don't think that's even meant to be a mouthplate. Articulation at knee and shoulders and that's your lot. Really quite poor.

Tiny though it is, the tank is quite cute. It's frustrating that it has no wheels for it to roll at all, but I will give it some marks for giving him two sets of tracks each side and avoiding that irritating phenomenon of splitting tank tracks apart during transformation. That the turret and cannon are detachable accessories makes Bludgeon deeply annoying to get on the secondary market. Without those bits he's just a flat green thing with tracks.

Bludgeon's inner 'bot is conspicuously the only vehicle out of the '89 'Con Pretenders, which - when consisdered alongside Pincher having a beat alt more, makes me wonder.

Not only are Pincher and Bludgeon's vehicle modes are the odd ones out of their groups but Stranglehold and Longtooth's shells make them seem like outliers in thier groups - with Longtooth's monster form and skull belt, and Stranglehold's human shell.

A group of Autobots with vehicle alt modes/human shells and a group of Decepticons with beast alt modes/monster shells makes a lot more sense. It does make you wonder. Inevitably, in my head, I start recolouring the swaps to fit with the group colour schemes.
Gray tank with a red barrel? Brown Scorpion with purple legs and green arms/tail?

There's been a peculiar theme with Power of the Primes, where the photography has really done the toy a massive injustice.

Rodimus looked shite when the first photos came out. He looked magnificent in hand. Predaking looked shite when the first photos came out. He looked magnificent in hand. Bludgeon looked shite when the first photos came out. He looks magnificent in hand.

He just looked so bland and washed out. The subtle paint detail all just seems to blur into a wash that looked like ti did a very poor job of evoking the original. In hand He's vibrant and detailed. The orange and purple just leap out at you, and I love the fact that his belt has a touch of the metallic to the paint app, making it look like bronze. Magnificent! Even the skull looks so much more sinister than the photos showed. He looks like a bastard of a warrior, with his jaw clenched and his brow furrowed into a scowl. It's excellent. Easily one of the best of these Prime Masters we've seen.

The only complaint, and indeed the only thing stopping this being a flawless Prime Master, is the lack of paint apps on the inner bot. It's a bit annoying that he doesn't have the green and brown of the original innerbot, but it's utterly vexing that he has no paint apps at all. Just a wee bit of something to bring his face out would make such a difference. I barely even care what colour you'd apply there (Though I'd have loved it if they'd used that other shade of orange they use on the glyph). Just give me a little something to bring the detail out. It's bewildering that you'd give this guy the care and attention to put his tank tracks on his arm, but wouldn't even give him the tiniest splash of paint. Both his wave mates have a little dash, and I can't help but think Bludgeon would benefit from it more than Bomb-burst.

I really hope some company does a KO of Predaking. It seems to be a nice set, but for what it is, i can't see ever justifying spending that much for it.

Just finished my Terror Con set. I think it's a toss up between Rippersnapper and Sinnertwin for my favorite - both are such great molds. Love hem both in their monster form.

Wish Cutthroat's head didn't fall off every time you turned off the lights. Also his head was REALLY hard to turn the first time - I was worried about snapping it off to be honest. Finally got it to turn, but it's still tight - not sure if the head was assembled correctly, but not sure I want to try and take it apart to figure out how to fix it. He looks awesome once he's in bird mode, but that head... *sigh*

Blot's okay. I know a lot of people love the figure, but he's just alright in my mind. Although I do love his hand transformations. Those impressed me, even though they're so so simple.

Haven't assembled Abominus yet, but looking forward to doing so later today. Definitely think this is my second favorite combiner set after Takara Computron (and might be my favorite for individual molds.)

    Hope we eventually get Poseidon!

I'm somewhat enjoying Nemesis Pax, aside from the big boy back kibble and the too-easy-to-move shoulder panels.
I really would have preferred this as a solo release like Hot Rod.
    IMG_20180709_114854.jpg
The fact the wrists move to allow an actually natural sword stance saves the figure for me.
