My Megaopolis order came in a day early. Abonimus looks great next to the G1 version.
I'm told you're supposed to pair Viper with Cyclonus, in spite of the fact that he's a Cobra Rattler and there's a Chris Latta character with a matching color scheme.
So, I'm thinking of getting POTP Optimal Optimus and un-pinning the 'regular' Optimus Primal from the rest of the backpack assembly and having him as a Protoform Primal.
I could be wrong, but after watching Peaugh's review, you don't really lose anything in Gorilla, Jet, and Robot mode? Except for maybe some un-sightly detailing (but lets face it, backpack Primal doesn't exactly blend in either). If anything, you gain some articulation range in Gorilla mode.
The only thing you lose is Surfboard mode, which, this version of Primal never had in the first place, so not really much of a loss.
I just think that Backpack Primal would make a really great Protoform mode, as he doesn't have animal detailing, no alt mode really, just a really basic figure with Primal's robot design cues.
This figure has far more potential than what they did with it. The fact that you can make two separate figures from it, existing at the same time, is not the worst thing. It is the fact that when you do do that (taking the back pack off of Optimus Primal) you then are left with two figures who cannot not transform. At least, the larger part might be able to, but still. It's not done in a way that makes sense with the rest of the class of this line. If Optimus Primal could have also transformed into a gorilla, it would make this figure good. As you stated, he turns into that strange vehicle/surfboard. The other leader classes of this line made alot more sense. The smaller alt-modes were at least indicative of their original alt-modes (Orion Pax didnt look like that but at least he really was a lad vehicle of some kind). Without that, i'm not really sold on it. It's just, incomplete.
Truly, it is a shame that we cannot count on this brand team to deliver us Apelinq + Primal Prime.
Felt like taking pictures of Dreadwind today.
I just found out the collector store I bought my wave 3 Terrorcons at and sold out off, has a second shipment coming maybe at the end of the month. Normally, they do not get second shipments.
Mine too! I went with a different configuration.
Buy another one that way you can piece out the parts to make one good one take the bad one back with the old receipt.
I finally preordered a Optimal Optimus from the collector store I go to.
Surprise of the day, BBTS has Rippersnapper on sale for $10.00! Just added him to the pile of loot, now to find the rest of the Terrorcons!
Why dont you just order them from BBTS also? They have the 3 pack pre-order up now for 59.99.
Yes, yes he does make a good protoform mode.
Optimal Optimus has that same feeling that the two wave one leaders, in that photos don't seem to do the deco justice. As soon as I had my hands on the box I could see that. Classy!
Then I opened the box and went "yeeesh!"
The engineering solutions are all very well thought out and the design team have obviously out some real effort in here. But the end result still feels a bit joyless. Like a stifled yawn. "No, I'm not bored. Carry on." None of the modes works all that well. The ape mode has a massive gaping hole in his back. Massive! The surfboard trick is cool, but not when it leaves your figure without a back. The inner bot is just an awful joke. A joke that hangs off the big lad's back. It should have been Starsaber, right? They really weren't expecting this. It feels like a bit of a disservice to all the Beast Wars fans that were excited. It'd almost have been kinder not to put Optimus Primal in the running.
And I'm not that impressed with Outback or Cindersaur either. Sad face! Outback's facesculpt is very well done. But it just doesn't feel like that character I loved. It's probably an incredibly petty and fussy thing to pick at, but I loved Outback in the run up to TF:UK #100. Now this may just be QC issues on the figures I received, but both of them seemed to suffer a peculiar mixture of stiffness in joint and tabbing and incredibly easy limb popping.
