So, I picked up POTP Blackwing the other day, and I figured I'd post a review here.

Robot Mode

Blackwing has a pretty awesome robot mode, with some great colors and paint apps. He's got a great head sculpt, I love the comic supervillain look it's got going. He doesn't have much kibble, aside from the wings on the legs and the nosecone on the back. He's got great pose-ability too, and can interact with Power Cores and Decoy Armor just fine. He also look superb posed with Dreadwind.

Jet Mode + Combined Mode with Dreadwind

Blackwing's jet mode is quite awesome in my opinion- it's got the usual robot block under the jet, but it's better than a lot of others. The colors are superb, and the tampos on the wings are very nice. Unfortunately, the way Blackwing is packaged, the blue tail wings are pretty bent out of shape, but you can pretty much bend them back. The combined mode with Dreadwind definitely leaves much to be desired- It doesn't stick together well, and the nosecone (with Blackwing's head clearly visible!) on the top of the jet does not look great. But it's still a fun addition, and I'm sure there's a custom combination that would be better.

Limb Modes

Blackwing's leg mode is nothing special, and in fact, it's pretty bad looking. His arm mode is nice, not amazing, but not too bad. There are better (custom) limb modes out there though.

Overal

All in all, Blackwing is a darn good figure, and I definitely recommend picking him up if you get the chance.

 

Great pictures. Though in the one with the duo in bot mode, I thought Blackwing was giving me the finger!

Thanks for the review, and the photos are also pretty good. I would like to found and buy Grimlock first, but I won't mind picking it up since I have Dreadwind already.

Just a simple request, can you take a close-up image of the headsculpt? I would like to see the detailing on the headsculpt.

Yeah. It's not great. I've been experimenting with a custom combined mode, but haven't had much luck.

Has anyone out there painted all that teal over with red yet for either of these guys? I wonder if it would be easy to spray paint it all.

 

Not that I know of.

Hmm, most likely it wouldn't be an easy job. You'd have to take the figure apart to properly paint it, and you'd have to take all the proper actions to make sure the paint doesn't scrape off, and that the joints would still work.

So yeah, probably not to easy, unfortunately.

 

These guys are probably going to be Elita's limbs, tbh. I like them, but I don't like Starscream. I guess the story could be that they fell in with Elita's grimdark outlook on life since the Carcer/Vigilem incident? Moonracer and Novastar would probably be better legs. Hmmmm... *plotting ensues*

 

Didn't he have a rifle in some convention pics?

Not a dealbreaker by any means though. Just curious.

 

I look forward to getting one but I do not ever want to see those damn kneecaps on any robot ever again.
