I like the PCC figures and so far I have Smoulder, Searchlight, the Aerialbots, Combaticons and the Rallybots. Double Clutch has a case of sore shoulders and one of his drones needs a bit of persuasion to finish it's automorph gimmick but's them's the breaks when you release a new play pattern. It's fun mixing and matching limbs and seeing what works. BTW you can plug one of Searchlight's rotors into Backwind for a 'drone' mode and you can mistransform Skyburst to get a 'gerwalk' mode ;-)
These will be the first Transformers I'm returning in over 10 years. I really wanted to love these, seriously. I like the thought of 'customizable drone limbs'. But the quality and design are the worst I've seen to date. I'm even so disgusted I wrote up a review of Bombshock and huffer. And trust me...you're going to want your money back.
They just suck. Tiny combiner that does fit into anything in my collection. they don't even function properly. Maybe they are cool for kids, IDK.
I dont have any of these yet. But I will more than likely buy some at some point. But the Combacticons, Stunticons (or whatever they are called) and the Dinobots combiner sets interest me the most. Even the Protectabots seem worth my while. For me its the nostalgia of the scramble city combiners and the minicons that are gonna do it. I like the idea of ports being on the drones and scouts that you can attach A/E/C minicons. As has been stated TF's are for kids, and I think that reguardless of the Fanboy (I am one too) that the playbility is the main factor with this line. Hasbro is going to Bank on this. It is a brilliant marketing and design concept, even if it has been done with other toys.
Had a 50 dollar gift card for Toys R Us and got the first wave. They're fun to PLAY with, and think that's the point. Huffer is my new classics huffer. The combiners would be a lot more fun if the arms weren't so spindly and were actually posable. I probably wouldn't buy anymore of the combiners unless the arms become posable. The drones, while annoying aren't that bad. Its not like they're presented as characters, they are drones for support and powering up the main figures. As a kid tho, I would have loved these.
I bought Bombshock/combaticons the other day. I have Smolder on the way as well. I like them...not love them, but like them. I think its a neat idea and the spring loaded transformations are a neat idea....I just wish they'd make them a bit bigger and possibly give them more stability. Bombshock in his full combined mode is difficult to pose and falls over easily
Wow coming from you Jin that actually means alot. I may be taking mine back but I can't decide I keep looking at them and thinking hmm there's gotta be a kit bash in there somewhere. I don't mind huffer and searchlight but the aerialbot drones suck. I do however have plans for the core bot (forgot his name)
Wow, so much hate, most of it on grounds that seem false to me. I'm noticing a lot of complaints about stability issues, but everything locks in securely on mine (for the record, ATM I have Huffer/Caliburst, Smolder/Chopster, and Skyburst/Aerialbots). Granted, they could have done a better job of pointing out some of the minutiae in the instructions, but most of it is fairly obvious anyway (like the slots on Smolder's back that the robot arms peg into during power-up mode). And outside of that, lots of complaints about things just vaguely "sucking", which sounds rather alarmingly similar to "I hate these figures so Hasbro must take them off the shelves!" My local TRU, in a space of about 16 hours, managed to sell through 4 each 2-packs and 5-packs, more than can be said for the HftD or Generations figures there, and when I first checked out the pegs yesterday they were already out of Searchlight/Backwind, so they must be doing something right.
I'm really looking forward to picking up the Autobot 5 packs. They look like a jolly bunch of fun, and I don't really care about the issues popping up here and there.
The most common complaints tend to revolve around the Skyburst/Aerialbots 5-pack. I've watched video reviews and read feedback about this particular set. I even have a friend that bought it, only to return it the very next day. If parts are falling off of Skyburst after the slightest touch and joints are loose, floppy, etc. right out of the box, and posing is hopeless - and it's happening with several copies of the toy - then I'd say that the "hate" is valid. I still bought Huffer and Smolder, though. I find the PCC line interesting to say the least.
however, if it's mostly localized, then hate should be directed to the mold with the problem rather than the whole subline. nonetheless I still think the whole setup suffered for the OMGLOOKAUTOMORPH! stuff. were I in charge of designing the PCCs, the limbs, if they couldn't have robot modes, still wouldn't have had this automorph thing. plug them on to unlock their transformation to limb modes, perhaps, but not the setup that they went for, which sounds like it's more of a headache than a selling point and to all you "OMG BUT IT'S FOR KIDS WHO WON'T CARE!" types, when I was in the age range they're aiming these at, having my toys pop apart or fall over if looked at funny still bothered me. I have trouble imagining that kids now are somehow less likely to care if their toys are lacking than in the nineties.
I've pretty much decided to buy this whole line including repaints; which is kinda out of my ordinary but it's because I just like them so darn much. I got all of the current assortment and haven't had any technical problems short of a little tension in Skybursts back flap. Regardless of how anyone feels though the line seems like it's picking up steam really fast. When I got mine at my TRU on truck day they had at least 60 PCC 2 packs and 4 of the 5 packs. When I dropped in today they had exactly 2 Searchlight & Backwind sets. (Intersting bit I found out is that it's pronounced Backwind as in "Wind up the garden hose" rather than "A gust of wind") One of my favorite aspects of this line is that the transformations are quick and clever without being so involved and still staying above things like F.A.B.. A lot of the figures in the movie line and even a few CHUG molds can take quite a bit of time and precision to get in and out of modes without snapping tabs, stressing plastic, or just generaly damaging anything. PCC on the other hand (mine at least), can practically fly in and out of their modes without any worry. Even in combined mode, joint for joint, they really arn't any less poseable or sturdy than most other combiners in the TF toy world. With the Mini-cons the figures are almost perfect. I do have to wonder though why Hasbro seems to have such a fetish for allspark blue in their movie sublines. It's not that it's a bad color, it just doesn't need to be on ALL of them. >_>
I voted "Meh". Smolder kicks ass; I'm very surprised at how cool he turned out. Honestly, if I wasn't a Classics/G1 lookalike fanatic, I would have passed on the "meh"-ness that I found Huffer to be. Only Icepick, Bombshock, and Grimstone (Dinobots) sound/look interesting to me. So far, the rest of the line looks very "meh". My main gripe is the lack of articulation in the drones. I would have preferred drones that I could transform myself into an arm OR a leg with decent articulation , rather than a springloaded near-brick like limb. I dont mind the idea robot form-less drones, just that it was executd better. As stated before, the PCCs seem to be targeted more so towards a younger audience. Not amazing quality across the entire line, but enjoyable nonetheless.
I picked up the Aerialbot and Combaticon 5 packs today, as well as Smolder, Huffer, and Searchlight. Haven't found a thing yet I dislike about them aside from the fact the drones don't have Bot modes, but all in all I'm quite pleased with these figures. I eagerly wait for more!
I picked up Huffer and Smolder today, no 5 packs here, and I like them. I'm a fan of the Armada series so I like the mini-con part of the 2 packs. The only thing I dislike is the mini-cons lack of a vehicle mode. I really want to pick up a 5 pack so I can get a feel of the interchangeability of the line. I like the scout scale over the deluxe so displaying many over a few deluxe figures on my desk looks more attractive.
I like them better than I thought but I agree that the appendages is the main weak spot, flip out hands and feet or even detachable accessories would have done better in an all-combiner mix-n-match theme.
I think they are crap. I have skyblast bombshock smolder and...the helicopter...(can't think of it's name) The 5 pack drone are total garbage. I could see thier shitacular limb transformations, if a bot mode had been incorporated...but a crappy limb mode and no bot mode is stupid...it fits into my theory of hasbro taking the lazy way...yet again. The 2 packs are a bit better...but that is only because they didn't include the garbage drones. Hasbro could have at least made the limbs cool looking for the gesalt. Someone needs to introduce hasbro to the concept of HANDS!!!!
