I would have been all over these as a kid. I like the idea, but I don't have room for them on the shelf. If I had a choice between giving a gift for a child and having to choose between a regular HFTD Deluxe or a PCC, I'd give them a PCC. Playability looks huge for these guys.
Meh. I agree they are fresh and promising, but something says they're trying to hard to do the scramble city combiner.
I'm just a bit confused as to what stance you're taking here. When you say "these don't need to be dumbed down," the way I read that was you saying something along the lines of "Transformers don't need to be more simplistic, and these are bad because they are." But, reading your other posts, you aren't saying they're bad, you're saying they're just as good as anything else. Rick and me aren't arguing that point, we're arguing with the people who don't like these at all, but you're picking our posts to argue with. All we're saying is that these ARE less complex than things like the BWN Shellformers, and that's a GOOD thing for kids who probably got frustrated at ROTF toys. They're not Activators-simple, but they're definitely not mind-bendingly difficult either. And just cos they're better for kids, doesn't mean we can't also enjoy them. Before the Botcon news revealed the future of Generations, I was more excited for PCCs than them because the first waves of Generations didn't have much to offer, while PCCs looked like a lot of fun. So, yeah, if you're taking the "PCCs are good" side, then I'm not the guy to argue with. I love em.
These don't look like they display well nor do they look particularly articulate. So the only playability is the fact that you can combine them real fast. Originally I was thinking about getting them if they ever do G1 combiner themed versions but I think I'll pass on those too.
I picked up Huffer and Searchlight since they were on sale at TRU. As toys, they're alright. Nice gimmicky figures for kids with LOTS of play options. But not something I'm interested in throwing into my pose-them-and-they-stand-there-FOREVER collection. Nothing wrong with them, just not my thing. Maybe if I had 5 year old, I'd be buying them for him.
Articulation =/= playability. You have "Commanders," drones, combined robots, and you can switch and swap drones for any of the Scout class figures. There's tons of playability.
My cousin picked a few of these up for me, so I'll hold my judgment until i see them next week. I keep going back and forth from what I see/hear online. The idea is cool, but the size leaves much to be desired, and it sounds like the execution isn't what it could have been.
I bought Skyburst and Bombshock yesterday. But I really don't regret it since I'm planning to keep them inside the packages.
I think there kinda neat. I would buy them more to play with actually. Huffer for collection, others for fun
I love them. The scouts are great, the minicons are cool, and the drones remind me of all the Hot Wheels I had as a kid, so I'm fine with those too. I'm actually considering getting them all. I can't wait for some of the later 5 packs. Especially the constructicons.
I find the PCC figures to be pretty cool actually. They are surprisingly articulated, especially for a gestalt and actually hold together well if you lock all of the parts correctly. I also find it is easier to attach the limbs if you transform them before attaching them to the torso. My only complaints are the neon blue used for the connector pegs and the clear Minicons.
i think we are all looking at it from a combiner point of view - we have prerequisites in place of what they should and shouldn't be. These aren't combiners at all. I see Skyburst and, say, Energon Landmine or Bulkhead, as having a "Brute Mode". extra bits that snap on to make a more menacing figure. just that the PCC has his brute mode stuff in the form of a team of drones - they are nothing more than equipment. just like Landmine's back end, grabby claw treads, etc. EDIT: as i play with them, i notice Searchlight makes a more sturdy torso than Skyburst. Skyburst has his minicon peg on back, which when you put Backwind on in chest armor mode, and extend the gun arm, it gives the brute mode a over the shoulder anti-aircraft howitzer. Kind of ironic, being that it's all airbased alt modes and accessories. definitely anti-air, as it only points up at a 45º angle.
I like most of them. The combaticon looking one is really cool. I don't dig the other 5 pack though. He's sort of a floppy mess. I don't dig the drones and feel more work could have been done with them. I DO like the minicon guys that come in the two pack. They're pretty rad.
Can't vote in the poll... none of the options match my opinion. I'm looking forward to them - they look like fun toys. Don't think they're the coolest thing EVAR, but I want to get at least 2 of the 5-packs to mess around with. The 2-packs look the best to me so far, but I like the idea of universal connection points. Would be nice if they weren't all the same (glaring) color though.
Playability might have been the wrong choice in words since I don't really play with my TFs. My point was for a collector who only displays their figures, there's less incentive to get these guys since their main advantage (the quick combining) is only used while playing with them. I was talking more about the combined mode articulation since I've only ever seen them standing. I wonder if those connectors have some use in making custom combiners though. Hmmmm...
Glad I'm not alone... I was starting to think that I was the only one who thought these things were shit from the time the very first promo photos were dropped.
Once I see Dinobot pictures I might go for that set. Otherwise if I get any it'll be at sale prices and VERY selectively. A discounted Smolder, for example, I might get. But mostly I just think they look lame.
I just got Huffer, Smolder, Searchlight, and Bombshock. So far, I'm loving them. I can't wait till I get the next wave.
got the scouts, those are awesome, save for the green minicon's gun mode, that kinda sucks, but still not bad then i got bombshock, nice scout figure his drones suck more than monica in the oval office, no articulation at all due to the automorph gimmick he can swing arms up and down, and thats about it his claws are floppy as well, terrible for $10 its still not worth the 5 pack, i feel like i got ripped off to fix this guy, ill need another 2 bombshock arm drones and 1 leg jeep, gotta give this guy articulation or sell him
