So this is a complete rework of me previous attempt at updated POTP Orion Pax, seen here Heavy/Scratch: - IDW Style Kibble Cover for POTP Optimus Prime

I was not happy with the original orion pax vehicle mode, and I'm sure many people can relate. Originally I was just going to design a removable piece that could peg on to the vehicle mode to cover the arms, but I wasn't happy adding parts-forming. That is why I overhauled it to make this.

Alright, I think I've kept you guys waiting long enough, so the prototype arrive but stupid old life got me distracted. Anyway, here are the results:

So the robot mode came out better than I expected, the chunky forearms actually don't look too bad. I cant descide I'd I should punch a hole through the plate behind the hands, it would be useful in robot mode but be distracting in vehicle mode



I'm actually very happy with the vehicle mode, a pick of paint to match the colours and I think it would look pretty good. I'm thinking of adding an idea style wind vane. thoughts?


I forgot to photo combined mode before it got dark, but it doesn't interfere, I'll post pictures tomorrow.

However, many of the tolerances were off, I had to do a lot of shaving down plastic and the top panels just will not stay together. I have tweaked the joints and tolerances and it is currently being re printed.

 

looks awesome if it turns out good id be up for one if you was up for selling them keep it up and cant weight to see more of a completed part

Could you show us what the arms look like in bit mode, please?

 

I'm not sure what you mean, the bot mode arm renders are there, I'm just waiting for the pieces to be printed

 

Didn't you already attach them to the lorry mode in the photo above?

 

That's just the truck with the forearms removed. Nothing has been added yet.

Also, I mentioned this in the previous thread, but if you could come up with a stronger trailer hitch piece to plug into the back of Orion Pax's head that would be awesome.

I'm planning on doing a leg upgrade next which will include a mores sturdy trailer hitch.

Shapeway's says it will be delivered on the 27th, so I guess they must be pretty slow in the uk

No, it wouldn't. The robot mode would be improved, because you'd have something that resembles a lesser form of Optimus Prime, as opposed to the G1 Orion Pax who literally doesn't look like the same character as the guy he's supposed to become.
