That aside, someone pointed out to me that sun destroyer is basically Megatron's plan from "Changing Gears".
I call that coincidence more than homage though.

 

Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Ratchet, Ironhide, Megatron, Starscream, Scorponok, Sam, Mikaela, Sam's parents, Lennox, Epps and Simmons are all homages to the 2007 Transformers movie. They even got the same actors and voice actors.

Soundwave was voiced by Frank Welker, another G1 homage.

Ravage is a G1 Ravage homage.

Devastator is a G1 Devastator homage.

The Autobots' vehicle modes were all General Motors homages.

Sam's hand injury is an homage to Shia LaBeouf's hand injury in a car accident.

Optimus Prime dying and then coming back to live is an homage to TFTM1986 and "The Return of Optimus Prime".

I still don't understand how the hell Frenzy's head is supposed to be an "homage". It's a continuity nod, nothing else.

Frenzy appeared in the previous installment of the movie series. He got killed at the end. Simmons too the head. Not an homage.

 

Sam getting the shard and all the symbols in his mind reminded me of Buster in the Marvel G1 comics where Prime mentally transferred the matrix to him. On top of that Buster was trying to save Prime as was Sam in this.

 

Wheelie says that the Decepticons that were searching for the tomb of the Primes were called "Seekers".

Also, the Cloverfield poster may have been put there because the teaser trailer for it was running before the 2007 movie.
