We love Soundwave. For his scilent actions, ability to own both females in the show, and the ability to make his actions speak for themselves. But I've noticed some similarities between Soundwave and the Urban Myth known as Slender Man. For those of you who dont know who that is, Slender Man is a creature who is incredibly tall, wears a suit, has long arms, tentical-like appendages, and no face. Some similarities are:

Long arms
Tenticals
No face
They both stand without saying anything.

I know it's out there, but it's an idea.

Thoughts?

 

when slenderman first showed up on forums back in 2009 , I'm guessing the soundwave design was made after this but slenderman didn't really get big till it went all over youtube when tfp already began to air and the tentacles are made after movie soundwave so I guess it's coincidence

 

I actually get a slender man vibe from Airachnid more. Since she's primarily black, has those long, spindly spider legs, and lurked around in the forest in her debut episode.

 

All the things you're decribing are typical means of portraying something as creepy or threatening, and are not proof of inspiration. Faceless, silent characters go back for generations, and the tentacles are pulled straight from movie Soundwave.

 

I doubt any inspiration for these guys came from ol' Slendy. For one, Slenderman is also someone who haunts people and makes them go insane, abducts people, and makes others murder people. Slenderman doesn't have tentacles as he has a lot of scary looking limbs, as well.

The designer already said that Soundwave was meant to be a ninja take on his original G1 robot with things from giant robot series that he loves such as Evangelion and more.

they just pick up blocks and hold them but they were inspired by slenderman.

 

I know they said he was supposed to be a ninja (Snake-Eyes) but he works so much better as Slender-Man.

technically the tentacle idea dates back to the G1 series, though I don't think the actual tentacles came in until the movies; but I forgot which episode it was but there was one where Soundwave was in boombox mode and I think he was sitting on a cliff next to a waterfall or something and this really long wire/cord/tentacle looking appendage came out of him and was like doin stuff and I think it had some kind of recon eavesdropping device on the end of it or something
