Do not let your eyes deceive you, fellow fans... this is a bootleg!

It's true! One of my import contacts in China picked this up at a local toy market.

He said they're only going for a few dollars less than the legit ones in the same stores, so they're not really worth the money unless you're just morbidly curious. But in case someone DOES want him to pick up one, he said it would be 35$ plus shipping, which runs anywhere from ~15-30$. (PM me if you want his contact info.)

Along with the REALLY convincing BT Skids KO that's making the rounds, this could be a dangerous development for ebay buyers, and a boon for dishonest ebay sellers. Because personally I have nothing against KO figures for novelty sake, but when people start passing them off as the real deal...that's a problem.

I should have more pics later, and hopefully I can get him to take some really close-up photos of the packaging, so maybe we can find some telltale signs to differentiate between real and KO... And then we'll see how convincing the actual product is. Cause the packaging is nice, but the proof's in the pudding, after all.

Also, he's going to be on the lookout for any of the bizarre repaints that bootleg Alts are known for, since they obviously have the molds...keep your fingers crossed for Mirage, Rijie, or even weirder stuff! :lol

Dammit. I have a Bt Skids on the way. It was cheaper than i've seen it before.
I hope its not a fake. Even though the auction said 100% authentic Takara, I'm not sure.

I'll know when it arrives i suppose:(

As already said i dont mind Ko's when you can easily tell its a Ko. But these counterfeits:banghead:

none of the previous KOs have fully replicated the packaging of the Alt/BT they've KO'd. This pisses me off, right here.

I think it's more likely that this is real and your friend was mistaken.

Thing is, this guy is as much a fan and KO aficionado as a reseller -- he's also got loose Botcon figures, SDCC figures (The pictures of SDCC Nemesis Prime published here are his) Animated figures, and some weird prototypes of TFCC figures, among others -- if he says it's a fake, I believe him. The fact that you don't believe it's a fake just yet is likely a testament to the skill of the bootleggers.

I've requested some high res packaging pictures for comparison to my SDCC Rodimus package, and he's promised figure pictures when he gets home and opens it...but he's got a real job (A guy's gotta support his plastic crack habit somehow) and there's obviously a time difference...so I'm just waiting patiently for now...

Maybe, but comparing those images to the gallery at Seibertron, I could find 0 differences...

As for the price--This wouldn't be the first time a SDCC exclusive popped up overseas selling for a little less than other Alternators. Nemesis Prime sold for less than $20 in Australia for a while.

    So I remain skeptical. :>

They should spend their time bootlegging good TFs people actually want.

Is this made by the same people who made the other KOs?

Well, it's hard to say. The Metals Transform KOs are all made by the same company of course, so any of them with Die-cast are all one company.

The Prowl repaints, Wheeljack, and Grimlock are all made by the same company, and the Skids and Rodimus are supposedly both made by the same company.

This is pretty crappy when KO's are getting so good we cant tell them apart, I'm not against people buying them but speaking as an owner of a toystore this is beginning to get dangerous.

Speak for yourself, friend. I've never had a shot at Alt Rodimus and I only saw Mirage in stores once. And I really can't justify spending what most places are asking. If this is really a KO, the only real shame is that it's not more affordable.

Are you some kind of crazy? This is the best alternator mould ever made, and in the most sought-after colour scheme.

Some toy store owners have been claiming not to sell bootlegs knowing full well they are. Some have no idea. I have a shop by me that tried to sell me that supposed limited to 500 clear Optimus. The guy who put it on layaway for me (I had no idea it was fake he was so convincing) really didn’t know it wasn’t fake. The owner did when I came in to tell them to shove it up their ass. He tried to tell me that they were the original molds used and that he knew the distributor.

Business is business and people will try anything to get business even if that involves duping toy retailers.
