    I wouldn't say the best, but I'll be damned if it isn't the hardest. I'm currently trying to beat it with a Level 1 cap on Richter mode, and I've broken one of my DS's while fighting Death. Right now, I'm at the next to last fight, but that sucker just won't die. :mad

    Level 1 hard mode is the best thing ever. Every game should have it.

    I couldn't agree more. It really extends the replay value, and I just love it when a game beats me black and blue.

    After getting max health and magic it's not too rough. Mastering Maria's health steal thing isn't a bad idea either.

    Actually, I've purposely not gotten many of the power-ups to up the challenge. It makes me feel more masculine. :cool:

    Ahaha! I don't feel like trying a level 1 run with no power ups. Only the last battle would be a problem, but still. >>;

    Only the last battle? You must be much better than me. Walking through most parts of the castle is as bad as a boss fight.

    Definitely an opinion thing. I don't even think it's the best DS Castlevania.

    Nah, I'm still pretty sure they don't. They don't even have faces in the game.

    I also don't think it's the best castlevania game ever.

    I like it, as this is my first castlevania game. *dodge bullets*

    Nothing is worst than fighting against 2 The Creature(s) in Portrait of Evil. Scary shits.

    Sorry, this game is decent, but I strongly prefer the immortal Symphony of the Night, amongst quite a few other Castlevanias that I think are better. It lacked the complex castle of some of the other "labyrinth" ones, the characters were anime style and a bit less compelling then most Belmonts and definitely Alucard, it lacked the variety of weapons and abilitys some others had (I swear I switched weapons for the characters maybe 4 times), and the BIGGEST thing is that it lacked the depth and majesty of some of the previous Castlevanias musical scores. I am a glutton for Castlevania music, and I think can make an otherwise ok castlevania game into a masterpiece. Symphony of the Night, Lamont of Innocence, Curse of Darkness, Super Castlevania 4, Dracula X, and even the musically challenged Genesis Bloodlines, all have incredible music scores.

    I understand liking the reply they tried to infuse in it, but I can hardly care to play through a game unless there is something compelling, such as a story or some new good Casltevania music to listen to.

    I should really play this again. I reached the 1st battle with Death some time ago and haven't touched it since. :(
    From what I've seen so far I still think Aria of Sorrow is the best portable Castevania.

    I'm no authority on Castlevania since i've only played SOTN and the DS games, but I found both of the latter to be a chore to play compared to the former.

    Part of the reason why SOTN sucked me in so much was that you were constantly exploring a huge and varied castle that seemed to be designed in a way that kept grinding, repeat travelling and boredom down to a relative minimum. Even the reverse castle was reasonably interesting because they populated it with new and stronger enemies that made you work almost as hard at fighting as you had to at the begining of the game.

    The DS games lacked allot of that IMO, I always seemed to be running around uninteresting environments that I could barely remember the names of and allot of the things that were supposed to add depth just seemed to be there to forceably extend the game in the absence of well tuned design.

    It's my favorite of all the hand held ones, but nothing touches SOtN.
