So, I just saw my first Solstice (Jazz) outside in the parking lot near my office. To say that car is small is an understatement. It looks TINY!

    Found these specs online:
overall length (inches): 157.2 (13.1 feet)
overall width (inches): 71.3 (5.94 feet)
overall height (inches): 50.1 (4.175 feet)

It's ever so slightly wider than, but just as long and high as, a Miata.

No wonder he's the itty bitty member of the team. Now I'm thinking that they should have made Jazz the Camaro and Bumblebee the Solstice. That would have made more sense.

I agree. I'm pleased with what they did with Jazz, and I don't think they could've done better.

Heh, so maybe a Camaro wouldn't be exactly it. However, my poor G1-addled brain screams that Bumblebee shouldn't be bigger than Jazz, durnit! :)  BB should be small and sneaky, Jazz should be a bit more flashy and obvious.

Of course, since they stuck themselves with GM, I can't seem to find a suitable alternative unless it's a Corvette (but again, more muscle, less flash). Oh well, I guess I'll deal :D

I used to own a Solstice. Trust me, they are very small. And aside from the GXP they are grossly underpowered.

It is actually fitting that he is the solisctice as it the closest car in that gm line to his actual size if he was a porche. Porches are not very big cars (SUV version exempt) So if he was his actuall 911 size he would not be much bigger. Porches are like really nice hatchbacks :)

Manlier?! Given that the Miata will always be seen as a girl's car, I think it's far from a shitbox. I heard that it performs way better than the Solstice/Sky, especially around the corners. The hardtop convertible version is also pretty sexy imo. :p

Not really. The sleak and sexy Solstice is perfect for Jazz; a big boxy muscle car would not fit his persona. Doesn't really fit Bumblebee's either, but if you made Bumblebee the Solstice and Jazz the Camaro, there'd be TWO bastardized characters instead of one :p

This is an important point that so many people seem to miss. Solstice is about the same size as a Porche 911, and I'd bet it has more mass to it than the 911 Porche Jazz was in the 80's.

Also, if the animators of the original cartoon went by actual vehicle scale instead of toy scale, based on their transformations, Bumblebee would have probably been taller than Jazz anyhow, by a small margin.
