Everything I would have suggested is here already--especially the emphasis on having an internet presence. I buy all current stuff from a local guy ('cause of the discount on my pull list), and his customer care (held my stuff for almost six months once when I was deployed) keeps me going back to him. But any older stuff I want I check Ruppsworld.com first for a variety of reasons, back-issue pricing primarily.

Besides the comic/toy side of the business, I would make very sure you have a rock-solid business plan, and that you run it past as many qualified people as you can. Almost a third of all small businesses fail within something like five years, often just because of a lack of basic business knowledge. And get a solid accountant and someone you can trust to run the store when you're not there.

Not that I know shit--just something I read somewhere.

My own dream is to open a comic book store one day. I've written a few papers about it in Business classes.

There's another comic book store here in town, and they're basically a textbook example of how NOT to run such a business. THey devote most of their space to table-top gaming accessories (along with tables to use those accessories) and seats to a mini movie theater that never seems to be running. Plus the comic selection is negligible, the store is run-down and in a degree of disrepair and the staff doesn't seem too friendly.

Hence why I never have nor ever will buy toys there. But 25% off all comics for pull listers, no mark-up on back issues, and full bagging and boarding make it the best shop for comics in the city.
