The saddest part is his life was in shambles and just when it started to turn around someone decides to take that away from him by ending his life.

Being canned by Marvel after negotiating with Rankin/Bass on their behalf for an unprecedented deal on the Thundercats comic, in which the scripts were pre-approved adaptations of the episodes so it was easier for Marvel to get the comics out quickly. It broke his heart to be tossed aside after so much work on their behalf, and on the behalf of a franchise he'd been a big part of.

But he was a freelancer, and its a hell of a lot harder row to hoe than people who aren't artists or writers think. There are exponentially more Stephen Perrys then there are Todd McFarlanes or Neil Gaimans in the world.

Check out Steven Bissette's blog about his friend and about freelancing in general. Its a good read, but very depressing.

Well it looks as if Marvel is the bad guy for what they did to Stephen. But I guess it is all business.

Its part of being a freelancer, where you live project to project and those projects may be few and far between with lousy pay rates. Not a life I could live for long.

    Damn, sorry to hear that.

I've seen some episodes of Thunder Cats and Silverhawks on re-runs, but was never really big on those shows. Still, sorry to hear that the writer of both series was murdered.
