Well based of early movie reviews and such it seems sideways is only in the film for a few seconds. So my question is why was he even created? Why spend all the effort to make him when they can re use models of old characters. They reused blackout without explanation apparently.

Wouldn't it have been better if it was say Barricade who died? It would have given closure to his story line, and they already had a model they could use?

    Thats just my opinion.

I think it like what they did with X3, which was to throw in characters that were there simply to give to let the audience know the movie version is littered with characters. Lots of people complained that this was a flaw in X3, but to me it was a vast improvement on the unrealistic absence in the first two movies.

Can't sell new toys that way. This is purely about selling toys - the more nameless, faceless characters they can squeeze into the movie, the more kids will buy those characters.

Yeah, more mutants is always realistic...wait, what?

I stand by the "to demonstrate NEST" idea.

I agree, since barricade was not in the 2nd (or so I've heard) it would make more sense to do that, and still keep sideways.

It definitely would have been a nice way to tie up the loose end of Barricade but oh well.

There were so many generic-looking Decepticons, I couldn't tell who was who to be honest :(  Especially towards the end.

The only ones I found where Bumblebee and Soundwave... :(  And boy, did you know the deluxe toys cost €20 here? It's ridiculously expesive if you know that they cost $13 in the States... And a freakin' Leader Class Megatron and Prime cost €60! I mean come on!

I'm sorry, are you complaining that the film-makers didn't re-use a first movie model, and saying they shouldn't have bothered creating something new?

Interesting that I'll have to quote this twice in a row -

From the Botcon writer's panel. I'm kinda thinking it wasn't just TO SELL TOYS, a mantra people love to repeat but that doesn't actually apply that strongly to film decisions. Hasbro will have enough toys to sell without strongarming the writers into making corporate-based decisions.
