I've repainted things before and the paints flaked off and beent too shiny. am I supposed to strip it if I'm only to details.

how do you strip or prime?
sorry for theese simple questions i'm sure there easy too easy for you custom masters here. thanks any help would be appreciated.

hey, have to start somewhere. and FYI some pieces are just to tight to paint without flaking. if they can't be dyed ( you can't dye to a lighter color) you're pretty well stuck with flaking paint

If you paint with acrylics...use a semi-gloss sealer afterwards...makes for a pretty durable finish...

Just as long as you arn't extremely rough with your TF's...such as pulling them behind a school bus on a string or something of that nature...

If your mixing custom colors, I mix flat and gloss paints together.

Also for air brushing, the Tamiya, Acrylic paint thinner, dulls the finish. Depends on how much you thin it as to how much it will de-gloss. (it made my, custom mixed, semi gloss paints, Flat)

Don't use Enamel paint on the flexible, pvc, type plastic. It won't dry completely.

I have used some of the Car Model paint from Wal-mart. The base colors and the Clear coat is pretty durable...but definitely read Op's was a truck thread. It's a damn good guide.

The paint is even better on clearance :D  Around Febuary I start looking for a few sets of Testors acrylics on clearance. Regardless though, you can get a good set from Wal*mart for $6-8 of them. :thumb

:lol  <---sorry, I had to do it! (j/k, welcome to the forum! We're always glad to lend a hand of support when we can! :thumb  Best of wishes for your future work!)

Also a big advantage with acrylics...if you mess up...you can easily scrape the paint off and start over...this is before sealer is applied of course...
