Buddy of mine came over to play COD4 on the PS3 and having played over XBL all this time I was not impressed with the Playstation network. Went on a couple of mad tears but would just sign out for like no reason. This a common thing with Playstation?

sign out for no reason? never had that happen. unless you IP connections failed.

thats been happening to me even when im on pc. it may not be the psn fault at all.

Sure your connection is stable? The only time my PS3 does that to me is when I am having network problems.

I've rarely had disconnects on my ps3, save for sfiv and it would just put me back in the lobby.

I don't know I just get these random sign out's of the PS network. Did update to the latest firmware today so that might be it *shrugs*. I also find it disappointing that multiplayer is rather choppy as well, XBL seems to be a lot smoother.

PSN sucks for most online games I've played. lags and disconnects all the time.

hell, tonight it took 2 hours to download MGS1 from the store.

Your connection must be wonky or something (change LAN cables? I use wireless, so I dunno what advice I can give you). I've never be unintentionally logged out on my PS3, even with the wireless.

FWIW if a game is choppy, laggy, or sluggish durring online play it's either due to someone being on slow connection, or the game having its online components developed by people who don't know how to code online matches smoothly. More often then not, it's not a problem that stems from Sony.

Also isn't MGS like 1GB? It takes me a while to download 1GB files.

Never had issues. Sorry dude, your chance to tell us that the system sux might not be found here. :)  Files do take a while to download, but I have yet to be kicked out of a game, and the few times that it happens, I run to my laptop and it's offline too, so it's foking AT&T.

Final Fantasy took me about 30 minutes. So it wasn't a walk in the park, but it wasn't bad.

I don't have any connection issues with mine. The only game I ever had trouble with online play was Little Big Planet. But I play Resistance 2 nightly and have never been kicked out, had any lag or been signed out of the network.

No probs on my ps3. And I've played various games online with no lag or disconnects. One of them being Call of Duty WAW.

Wow, haven't you played the Uncharted 2 beta? The talk there would generally make the XBL kids blush.

The only help I can offer is what type is your routers encryption?

If its WPA and its variants then that may be your problem as the PS3 has a real tough time with it, unlike PC's, Wii's and Xbox's. I had to change mine to WEP for it to work correctly and for it send and recieve packets correctly.

I'd be more concerned with the blushing should this be the case on the final release. I didn't have problems with U2, BUT, I didn't play it that long.
