I'm planning on purchasing a G1 Fortress Maximus soon. I'm looking mainly for a nice one without discoloration/yellowing and 100% complete. Boxed is ok, but I'm fine with loose.

What are some of the big things to consider when purchasing Fort Max? What should I look out for? (Easily broken parts, repro parts I should be cautious of, etc.)

And lastly, what price range should I expect to pay? I've seen some 100% complete, non-yellowed loose examples on eBay with BIN for $800+. I was about to purchase one, but I was told this was too high. For anyone who owns one, I would appreciate any insight you can suggest for me before I make this big purchase to get one my most awaited grails. Thanks!

Be Ready to pay about 500.00 ... if the Economy were great right now , then you'd probably be paying a little more .... but try to stay around 5 Benjamins ...... Also make sure it has all it's part , ofcourse .Especially Spike.

$500+ is the ball park you'll be looking to spend. If you try piecing one together, start with one that's mostly complete but only missing a couple of relatively inexpensive parts.

I have a MISB Brave Max that I bought a few years back when they were still pretty cheap. I like the color scheme of Brave Max much better than Fort Max. I DO have a G1 Cerebros to swap heads with though.

I bought the KO Cog set to complete it about a year ago.

    Just another option to consider....

Thanks guys! I just checked some completed auctions on eBay and I saw that there was an ended auction for just Spike (alone) and it ended at $249.99 BIN! Is this accurate or just a fluke auction?

If this is accurate, then it seems that getting a Fort Max with Spike included is a must. I didn't think that such a small part would cost up to 50% of the toy?

thats likley not a fluke as the 2 headmaster parts tend to be the most expensive to replace although thats likely onthe high side

Ok guys, I just happened to win a Fort Max on eBay this morning.

Transformer G1 Autobot Headmaster Fortress Maximus NICE - eBay (item 130321902320 end time Aug-06-09 09:47:27 PDT)

I really wanted to try to piece one together. I know I'll probably pay a little more in the end but I like the challenge of piecing out complete Transformers. I made sure that this one had un-yellowed parts too. I really wanted white plastic!

I hope I got a good deal on this. Let me know what you guys think... Lay it on me, whether good or bad. Thanks guys.

Ha! I just happened to be looking at that today! Wasn't interested in buying it, as I have Car Robots Brave Maximus.

Congratulations, man! Even having to pick up the extra pieces, you've scored quite the piece!

No, no Spike. Did I pay too much? Or is it just about right?

I think you did OK. The missing parts are going to kill you though.

If you are interested in seeing how the MasterHead(cartoon accurate) Spike(a much cheaper option as well) looks on it, here a couple of pics:

I think you did alright. I bought a complete one from a member here for $700 shipped, so if the missing parts cost you the remainder, you're still in fairly good shape.

It's too late for the OP, but I'm still holding out for an encore or otherwise reissue of Fort Max. We know the mold is still intact. There's a rumor floating around he might be the next one after Rumble/Frenzy/etc too... Ah, to dream.

I really liked Fort Max at the time I bought it a few years ago, but I ended up getting rid of the body and just keeping Cerebros after buying a WST Fortress on Ebay. It was just too big a toy for an apartment.

ah there is no rumor, just speculation, and it is NOT cost effective to reissue him
