Could be different manufacturers that PX are using are causing delays in some figures.
Thanks a lot for the clarification!
Suddenly there were so many 'store-specific' releases (TCP, Ages 3 and Up, Tfsource...) that I was starting to wonder about the actual nature of the figs....:
- Manufacturer Limited Edition (fixed number)
- TRUE TFCON exclusive (followed by online sale of any remaining stock not sold at the Con by ONLY one retailer)
- Revealed at TFCON (by one specific store), but NOT actually TFCon exclusive, as manufacturer will eventually distribute to other major retailers...
Needless to say, it is best to avoid secondary market prices (so it is good to know in advance the availability of the ones I really need to have!)
It's pretty much their M.O. Well, this and their horrible instructions I mean, if a day ever comes that a PX figure comes with actual decent instructions, I'm sooooo calling it a KO,
Could be some delays at the factory the other seekers are being/were produced.
When it says "TFCon Exclusive" it just means that it's available at the event. They even follow it up with having the name of the store/reseller that'll have it for sale. What I've seen is that TCP had the Planet X PX-09T Somnus, MTRM-10 Meteor, and MTRM-11 Galaxy Meteor. TFS had the Iron Factory IF-EX20C Clone (Sunstorm), and the pre-order for MTRM-09SP Bounceback. A3U had the MMC R-19AM Kultur Asterisk Mode, R-27SG Calidus Shadow Ghost, and Ocular Max PS-06O Offroad. All of them are exclusive at TFCon. Now, as far as after the event, that will be an option for the manufacturers if they want it to be sold with a specific store(s) or just a mass release.
But they clearly use the word 'EXCLUSIVE' way too much. It ends up being quite misleading for collectors...
Convention Exclusives... Did you see those figures for sale somewhere else, during the dates that the convention was running?
Think of it as a Limited Release.
Gah. My Somnus has two of the same tail-fins instead of a right and left one. I'm going to have to contact @Chosen Prime.
Edit: Just tried transforming him to make sure nothing else is wrong and his right leg doesn't want to open up. His right foot is also missing its side "toes".
True. The figures were not available during the Convention (except at the Convention), but:
I would call a REAL Convention Exclusive the one that will ONLY be available for purchase at the convention (and that it will never be for sale online after the event, except, of course by people that went to the convention and that are re-selling, or the store that had it at the event, and that is just selling the remaining stock.) A box with the Convention logo, like those for SDCC, are the ones that I think best describe convention exclusives..
If by EXCLUSIVE they mean a figure that will be made available for sale (for the first time) at the event (but will be for sale online after the Con by other retailers), that I would not call a real Exclusive (unless those other stores got hold of some stock made particularly for the event, of course).
Limited Release: I like this definition better. More flexible, and not so precise. We could then talk about something originally created with the Convention in mind, but that could still be made available by the manufacturer to retailers directly...
So that's why I was wondering whether Planet X has plans to provide Somnus stock to other retailers now that Tfcon is over (i.e., to see how rare this figure actually is...).
Bummer. I think you should just request a replacement figure. Yours seems to be a lemon, unfortunately. Mine have no issues.
I just got mine delivered today. Looks fantastic and even better in person than in the photos. The combination of some opaque painted sections with the different translucent colors is quite remarkable. The white paint over translucent on the face highlights the terrific face sculpt better than Mors. It really conveys a stern and intimidating expression.
Yeah, I sent @Chosen Prime a message on their website on Wednesday. I forgot to mention in it that his "toes" were also missing, but it's visible in the pictures. Just waiting for a response now. I'm sure they'll take care of it.
