The detailing on the camera is badass, mad that it doesn't take pictures for real. I think I will stick with my Scout Force X figure, they look more like IDW Reflector. These do not look like any version of reflector I know of.
I don't know how into photography you are, but if this took pictures as a real DSLR, it'd easily be over 1,000 bucks to take lower end pictures even. IT'd be cool, but it'd be steep $$ wise.
As for the set... dig the camera mode, but those robots just look awful to me.
Camera mode smashes the PE version out of the water. The detailing on the back looks incredible.
Things kind of fall apart though in Bot mode. Lots of kibble and excess parts that don't really work as weapons. Still alright as they all manage to look different enough, and probably better for the money for the PE bots.
Something about this just isn't working for me.
Perfect Effect's SFX set seems to have more "character" to me - from their charming tiny size to the ludicrous weaponry and the ingenious weapons storage . . . I just find myself constantly fiddling with them. They come with adorable little murder daggers!
These look good, just not a buy for me
the details are amazing.
not feeling the Perceptor vibe on these guys.
It's like when they turned Soundwave into a satellite for the second movie, yeah it's practical and updated...
but (to me) I doesn't feel like the original guys souls carried over to this new design.
Amazing much better than the PE ones.
Very nice alt mode and the bot modes are interestingly unique by themselves. That said, I'm not sure where these fit in as Transformers toys. They're just not Reflector or Viewfinder/Spyglass/Spectro, nor do I think TFC meant for these to be straight slavish G1 homages of the characters. It's good to see TFC branching out a bit from that but at the same time I can see this working against them as far as sales go since a lot of folks (like myself) won't pick them up simply because they don't look G1 enough. FansProject may have done something similar with Steel Core but they're FP; I don't think TFC has quite the same clout as a third party as FP at this point and time. Nice effort though.
Nice alt mode...bot modes are not too bad as the pics we saw at TFCon....but I will stick with PE version....if the colors were reverse....black where purple is and vice versa....
what a fun sentence
personally, i think the set needed a ton more white to give a more G1 vibe
Yeah the bots arent too bad, I think my biggest issue is the lense is just a big block hanging off one of them when in robot mode. Unless it seperates and does something cool that they arent showing off it looks way oversized. Alt mode is very cool, adding in the tech from like those $15 novelty digital cameras would have been a cool touch.
For me, these will be Reflector version 2.0. =)
That's my problem too, they included a lightup gimmick with the lens, but it would have been a much better call to actually make it break apart, or incorporate into one of the bots.
Cancelled my preorder. For my collection needs, they have to all be similarly sized.
^ I 2nd that.
I love how these figures take on a new personality and I really dont think TFC meant for them to be a G1 homage to reflector. The updated look put this in the same category as Hercules for me.
this is a must have.
Oh, I like this but I ain't too sure on the headsculpts. Interesting though.
I wish all HasTak robots were this awful.
I find it sort of amazing that one dude can hold that lens with one arm and not be toppling over. That lens has battery/led light in it no? Too bad it doesn't seem to break apart into other things like the PE version.
I think the issue here is that having 3 robots form a camera is always going to be seen as a reflector homage and be judged as such. Steelcore's robot and alt mode aren't connected to any existing TF's and is therefore much easier to take as a separate standalone character.
The engineering on this thing is ace; TFC must have really learnt a lot from the Herc set. These bots and the Uranus bots look a lot more interesting visually than most of the Herc bots.
If these were G1 coloured and had better heads, I'd buy these so hard, even with the size disparity between the 3 and lazy lens transformation. If they're smart, they'll do a second 'Type 61' run of these like Maketoys did.
