Hm. Actually I don't mind the colors for the Seacons EXCEPT for the yellow. It just seems completely out of place. All of the other colors, though varied, are a bit muted. The yellow is just too bright and is distracting. (Perhaps the dizzying effects of the yellow is an added ability to Piranacon's bio?) That said, take the picture of Skalor as the weapon for example. I think the colors look really good on it. If they would have made it more uniform with that palette in mind, it would have been an awesome set. As it stands, I really only want Nightbeat now.
I STILL want that club Astrotrain. I'm gonna have to break down & buy it one of these days. I wish I could simply trade one of my Armada Jetfires for it.
wasn't that mentioned as likely at the last Botcon? seems like Ironhides no-brainer, he's GOT to be the most popular G1 guy that's never gotten a true update in any form. (and Don's design from DWG1v.3 was so sweet and totally toyetic)
I'd love to know why Tformers thought they were giving anyone the first look at Astrotrain and "Chormia". Why all the pics of the 2005 exclusives? do they think we need five shots of ironhide? ... it just occured to me that it's entirely possible (considering their track record)they think the 2005 exclusive set on display is this year's set.
i am surprised nobody mentioned this....THERE ARE PICS OF HERO MEGATRON THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just as a poster thingy but still an image
Oh, I'm still buying it. I kinda dig the scheme, just wish the rifle hadn't been turned yellow. I'll just grab some g1 fists and rifle off of ebay.
or that they want to let everyone see the primus substitute set since they don't have enough of the 2008 set.
The more likely scenario is that Hasbro already did the work locating the molds, deciding on the colors and setting up the packaging to release them in Universe and FP knew we would buy it in any color and at almost any price so why spend money changing anything?
Mmm... I doubt it'll come in it's intended Universe packaging (especially sense these things were never put into packages for the Universe line... only a few test shots ever surfaced) as FP always gives us incredible boxes with Styrofoam inserts. It's one of the reasons I don't mind buying these exclusives.
Heads up everyone - David Willis of Shortpacked has a pic of Botcon Megatron up on his site/blog. It's got a head patterned after the prototype Megatron's head! (As in, the head before it got revised as ol'Buckethead) Direct link to his pic: http://pics.livejournal.com/shortpacked/pic/0012z1zd/g176
Of course, they did change a few things. Like that big gun people are complaining about being yellow. I'm not too bothered, but I do wonder at such an odd choice, myself.
I want that Piranacon. Too bad I'm not a member of the club, it'll cost me a buttload more O.< Also, that Megatron is hot. And Nightbeat is close to being decent. But the crappy arms and unneeded backpack keep killing that mold.
Holy f***!!!! I so want that Megatron... alrighty than... I know what I'm doing with part of my economic stimulus check... Ah, I see. Sorry for misunderstanding you there. Eh, who knows really? I'm not too disturbed by the colors as this would have been what we'd have received anyways, but I was hoping for less of that yellow not more... as that's the one color that seems totally out of place on this deco. Still, it's not terrible and I'll be getting it. Not to mention, I think G.B. Blackrock's explanation is probably closer to the truth... they didn't want to change it too much or the people whom wanted the set may not want it anymore. Which, makes sense from a marketing perspective.
The gun was always yellow (at least the test shots we saw). Hasbro's character art showed it as black though (along with the hands).
