I'm trying to fill in some of the missing Classics, and while Energon Downshift on his own would be an acceptable Wheeljack, I prefer more traditional colors...

Hopefully what he looks like after a repaint:

    Now that's Wheeljack

EDIT: someone just pointed out to me on another board that Superlink Wheeljack pretty much has this color scheme already, thus making this whole thread pointless- d'oh!

I just got the Superlink version... yep, looks pretty much just like this. :)

Except the windows and stuff are still orange, not blue. Before I happened upon the Superlink version, I was considering painting/dyeing all the limb bits black on my Cybertron edition Downshift... which I think is even closer to the original Wheeljack.

I wonder what clear paint color would look blue(-ish) on top of clear orange....cause I really like the blue a lot better.

I recolored him with black limbs, and I really like the way it looks! Tough to decide between the two...

That's a tough call, because all that black really tends to dominate the white areas... the contrast might be too much. G1 Wheeljack had white lower legs, so that balanced it out a little more...

Here's my digibash experiment on the same topic...

I like the Downshift legs flipped around G1 style, though I'm thinking they'd look better if I rigged it so his whole waist could rotate. Also, I pasted in Cybertron Downshift's head just for fun... not sure if it looks better than the Energon one.

Also, I think you're right... the blue does look better than the orange. I wonder if it might just be easier to paint the window areas and head-tabs a solid metallic blue like the false window on his chest?

Hmm....the legs look pretty good, but it's hard to judge not actually having the figure in my physical possession. Good call on Cyb's DS's head, if I ever happen to pick him up I'll swap 'em assuming they fit each other. The crotchplate I still like better with the gray, though

For some reason the blue looks off to me, mainly because it's mixed with the red and green. I know his side ear thingys were blue when he talked in the cartoon, but I think painting the windows and ear thingys grey would be the way to go along with the first grey limbs digibash catch22 did

Agreed... it's too much black with the hips painted dark too. Good call. Sometime soon I'm going to rig the hips so they rotate completely, so the car-hood legs will face forward the right way... but that's sort of an involved bit of modification, so I dunno when I'll actually do it.

I actually like the Energon Downshift head quite a bit... but if I'm gonna do Wheeljack, I figure the Cybertron Downshift head is better. I can save the Energon head for bashing into some other character after all...

Very nice work. If they'd molded him with blue windows as they should have, I might've kept mine.

I need to track down a Superlink WJ.
