Or you could go HERE to get a great open source program that will work almost as good as Photoshop. :)

I have no idea how to use Photoshop. Never had the time to learn it. But I did get it via the internets.

Is it as hard to understand as photoshop without learning, or is it like MSpaint, where you get it and go without any formal lessons/tutorials?

Also, maybe I'll learn how to use photoshop by them time the free version (not $600) is released. :)

EDIT: When I try to download GIMP, it says that windows can't view the page.

Well as far as basic things go you could probably learn it like you would MS Paint, but if you want to really use it for what it's meant to do you'd need some tutorials.

photoshop is alot easier to use than gimp, gimp from the looks of it is made entirely by coders with no regard given to usability!

photoshop is real yeasy to use, as long as you stick to the right functions.. hmm mabye i should make a basic tutorial to show everyone how easy it is

Never used Photoshop. Probably never will. If I was a talented artist like a lot of you guys, and decided to post some artwork online, maybe.

I know I'm not allowed to condone it here, but do you guys think that Adobe even factors in middle-high schoolers, and poor college kids who download Photoshop into their profit margins? I don't think they expect them to afford a $500+ program and they make most of their money through business liscensing anyways right?

That doesn't make it ok, but, afaik, 90% of regular artists don't actually buy Photoshop until they start a company or start making alot of money from it. Maybe they're releasing this now as a way to say "now you don't have an excuse," although I'm sure its going to be watered down.

The headline of "Free Photoshop" just makes the internet nerd inside me go "Lolz it was already free ;) )

Again not suggesting it don't delete my account

nope, they already knew all this, nothing has changed in that regard. i would imagine that they would absorb those costs as marketing - in the same way that some 80s record labels encouraged piracy to increase awareness of the band, students using pirated copies of photoshop helps to keep it the industry standard.

this new development, is, as far as i can tell, a response to google - google have developed a successful software-as-a-service business model, already offering a free online serious competitor to microsoft office, as well as a full 3d program etc... so i think that adobe are just getting in there as quick as they can, before google make the same thing themselves.

additionally they will be making some money from the software - through advertising - which is more money than they would make from a pirated copy

Mines only Photoshop 7.0 with some upgrades, but mine was free with my company, we got the unlimited keygen thing and office version, so pretty much any computer I've had has it, and we just pass it all around.
