Not sure if this is already old news, but I just saw this WOW commercial on TV (and luckily found it online a few seconds later). I wonder if Mr. Cullen is finally getting a few more higher profile gigs like this thanks to the movie. Hope so!
You guys talk like Cullen never gets any VO work. He's been in the industry for over 30 years. He regularly does TV promos and movie trailers and does lots of commercial work as well. I think he does some radio voice imaging too. Search on his name at voicebank.net and you can listen to demos for his trailers, commercials, and promos. Trust me, Pete ain't hurting for work.
Oh brother. I fully realize Cullen's been in 'the biz' for over 30 years, isn't hurting for work, yada yada yada. Exactly as I stated in my post, I was merely mentioning that hopefully he's now getting a few more higher profile gigs thanks to his work (aka larger exposure) because of the movie. That's all. I don't know about anyone else, but the last time I heard his voice pop up in a commercial (that wasn't related to TF somehow) was via a truck commercial a few years ago.
Well considering their target demographic for WoW, Blizzard just managed to pack 2 celebrity endorsements into one ad! Sopranos Guy and Optimus Prime! I wonder if it was on purpose, or if it just worked out that way. zmog
I don't even watch that much TV and I've heard him doing promos for TNT, NBC, and Cartoon Network a number of times in the last year. Also heard him on a few movie trailers and some radio ads as well. And maybe you just don't understand that doing promos for networks and cable channels IS "higher profile"? There are plenty of full-time VO people who would KILL to score regular TV promo gigs. The pay scale for TV promos is, like Pop Tarts, "crazy good." Also, I wouldn't exactly call WOW "higher profile", but eh... it's at least a step up from his work doing Pooh cartoons. And perhaps you weren't aware that Mr. Cullen has history with Blizzard Games. He was cast as the voice of Doomhammer in the ill-fated graphical adventure game Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans (orig. slated for release in 1997). As I understand it, Cullen had already recorded all or most of his dialog for the game before Blizzard made the decision to cancel production on it. Adventure games were quickly dying due to the rapidly rising popularity of multiplayer, and this game unfortunately was one of the fatalities. Here's the trailer, which the late Tony Jay (The Tick, Hunchback of Notre Dame) narrates, but you can hear a line of dialog from Pete in there too: YouTube - Warcraft Adventures Lord of the Clans I wish Blizzard would put this back into production as a direct-to-DVD animated feature. That would be all kinds of cool.
You actually hear Cullen a LOT more than you think. Any night if you pay attention you can hear his work at almost any commercial break. His voice doesn't always sound like Prime. hehe
Actually, Blizzard used Peter Cullen to voice it's tralier for the The Burning Crusade Expansion back in 06. YouTube - WOW Burning Crusade Trailer enjoy
There's one on Facebook -- looks like someone created the group barely a month ago. I just joined. And I also host a voice actor fan group that includes most of our membership being Peter Cullen fans among our 500+ members, and we have a Facebook group too. See my sig line for the link.
