Based on his answers, he doesn't seem to agree with the idea that lines like We will kill them all and You die! are inconsistent with Prime's traits. So, that pretty much puts an end to the argument that Prime was portrayed out-of-character in Dark of the Moon.

Awesome, he would like to do another,
He may not have much of an influence on a 4th film being made but it is promising :)

Peter Cullen is always a fun one to get an interview from. He's one of those nice guys that gives credit to everyone, there isn't any ego in the way, and he really tries to give some insightful answers that help you understand the process of what he does as a voice actor.

Very well put, Ash. :thumbs2:  He's a very down-to-Earth guy who "knows his place", so to speak. I don't think you'll find Peter ever mouthing off to his boss or demanding more screen time for his role.

Because I don't believe I can italicize in the thread title, and for print publications unable to do so, using quotations indicates that it is a film/book title. ie, here I can type Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Or The Chronicles of Narnia: The Boy and His Horse. IIRC, you are also supposed to underline titles if it's a short story or poem. I think. Could be wrong on the latter.

EDIT: In MLA style, poem titles are enclosed in quotes. They are neither underlined nor italicized. Film titles are italicized. So quotations are my substitute for italicizing in the thread title.

For example, he wanted to cameo but didn't have the nerve to ask. Dude is so nice he doesn't want to interrupt filming. He kept it at the back of his mind. However I bet bay would have loved to squeeze Peter into a cameo shot.

I wish he would have asked; that would have been awesome. Perhaps the scene in which Optimus scans the long-nose truck could have been done a bit differently. Peter Cullen could have been the driver of the truck that Optimus scans and the camera could have been positioned in such a way that gives a clear shot of his face as he drives by when Optimus scans it. It would have been subtle, but powerful.

    EDIT:

There could have also been a scene in ROTF or DOTM in which Optimus is driving along and Peter Cullen happens to drive by him in the original truck that Optimus scans. In this scene, Peter would look at Optimus (in truck mode) with a puzzled face and say, I thought I had a custom paint-job.

Dude, how does his opinion end all argument on the issue?

I dont mean to sound rude but that statement is quite ignorant.
Sorry bud, but it is indeed out of character with how the character was originally depicted.

If it puts at least a partial end to the stupid bickering, I won't question it. :)

Awwwwww...Peter wanted to stay and play, too bad he didn't get the chance to have his cameo, maybe he will in a future TF movie.

    Short and sweet interview.

I do not wish for this thread to turn into one of those "Optimus shouldn't kill!"-threads. But whilst I love Peter Cullen and found this interview enjoyable, it - as SVK200 pointed out - in no way ends the "issue" of Optimus killing. Nor does it intend to. :)

Peter Cullen will never trash Transformers.

He said (either at BotCon 2004 or CyberCon 2005) that Optimus Prime fights to protect, never to kill, only as an absolute last resort. And that's why he loves the character and will always try to do his voice if he's allowed, because that's the type of character HE would look up to, and he wants others to look up to Optimus too.

That's not a knock on Cullen, but he's way too nice to trash anything he works on. But I'm almost willing to guarantee he had reservations with "WE WILL KILL THEM ALL!", but he's too nice and humble to ever speak up about it.

    Thank you.:thumbs2:

And for the record, I dont think "Optimus shouldnt kill", I quite like the fact that hes willing and has done so....but maybe not as offten.

To tell the truth I always felt his not killing wasnt very believable.

But it is how he was depicted.
