Which should I purchase? I've heard good things about both but I'm torn on them.

The United ones are better toys, but the PE ones are better representations of Frenzy and Rumble.

go with PE. iv got the shadow commander and I'm getting Frenzy and Rumble next week. but that little guy is awesome! they are great representations of the characters and a great size.

the united ones just look weird and its nice they transform but personally i could care less for a character who doesn't really NEED an alt mode. so a gun works fine for me

everyone keeps forgetting there's a new F/R combo coming soon.
i have the PE versions, which are very fun but dont have an appropriate altmode.

I may be mistaken, but I think the reference is to the cassetticons coming out alongside FansToys AcousticWave (not Soundwave)...

I'm disappointed in the United R/F figures. Between their unconventional growth spurt. Those horrible chicken legs and simian like arm kibble it's a no brainer which one is better. And as bland as their tank modes appear it's hardly worth even bringing up. Especially considering what R/F were originally. So it's not likely that either will see a lot of time in their alt modes anyway.

The only thing that seals the PE R/F fate is the price.

But if the PE's were the official ones for $10-$15. And the United were $60+

This would be a dead issue.

PE Frenzy and Rumble capture the characters better. They're small like their G1 characters, and their gun modes can be used by a Soundwave toy. But they're a bit rough (the joints on mine aren't very smooth) and their pistol storage sucks. Meanwhile, the United ones have a more functional alt mode, a better pile driver gimmick, and are most likely more durable since they don't have tiny parts.

It isn't necessarily a contradiction. First Edition Prime Optimus Prime is a better toy than Classics Optimus Prime, but Classics Optimus Prime is a better homage to the G1 character.

My vote will always be for PE. Neither have at modes really fitting to the characters but the PE ones in a scale that fits with my Classics (ANYTHING in "scale" is nothing short of a miracle), and they're grea litle toys on heir own with plenty of articulation. I've thought the United ones looked like ass ever since I saw the first pictures. I've never had any regrets passing on them.

I got the PE set myself. Gotta go with them.

I'm not too worried about scale - probably going to display them with Hercules.

I'm going to stop you right there. Comparing Shrek-former to anything "Classics" oriented is absurd. (Well other than Galvatron and those beast-former things from 2.0)

The fact that Optimus Prime has lips equals EPIC FAIL!
But you're welcome to that opinion.

Oh and calling R/F tough and fragile is and oxymoron.

    Go figure....
