The smokestacks for US released Primes is for safety reasons...something like kids could swallow them if they broke off from Prime.

It has something to do with safety laws. All reissues of the original Optimus Prime mold (Commemorative Series Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus), the Commemorative Series Powermaster Optimus Prime, and the 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime figures all have short smokestacks. I believe it has been said that it is because they can not pass a drop test and break creating a choking hazard for small children.

I'm tired of linking the same page over and over again, but yes, the reason is because if the toy was dropped, the stacks are liable to break off into a chokable size. Voyager and Leader movie prime avoid this by being detachable large pieces and rubber/unbreakable, respectively. You will never have a long-stack G1 or Masterpiece prime by reason of this law.

I don't mind the rubber, just paint it a bit and it might look like plastic. The same goes for lots of other sharp parts, like Leader Movie Meg's claws and wing tips

Yeah I would rather have the rubber than the neutered stacks

does it mean just because it is a toy, it has to be safe for ALL ages? I mean, couldn't they just make exclusives like pepsi prime more geared towards adult collectors and not safe for children?

Short answer: No. Anything that will be available and purchasable by minors must conform to the laws. Hasbro might TRY saying it's an adult collectible, but that'd go over like a fart in church. Anyway. It isn't just an adult collectible. It's a toy. Fact.

I guess they could, but an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure(referring to preventing lawsuits) Some people also sell replacement stacks, though I haven't seen any that aren't for 20th Prime

It's not a particularly large issue, but the rubber is an excellent solution to the problem.

I got to agree with you both...my take is that Hasbro is taking the "prevention is better than cure" route - especially when suing is the quite common the USA. In Asia, no one keeps a hoot about the long smoke-stacks.

Drinking too much Pepsi gives you smaller stacks.

    Trust me, I know :(

More like the people who make these toy restrictions are afraid of lawsuits by "concerned" parents. It's a scheme to protect their asses - by their, I mean the toy companies - from being sued.

BTW - I don't remember by original prime's smokestacks breaking off - much less having a kid put it in their mouth

It's just a way for parents with retarded kids to have someone to blame for their kids being retarded, other than themselves. I know that when I was old enough to be playing with Optimus Prime, I wasn't thinking "hmm, wonder what that smoke stack tastes like".
