The title more or less says everything, but to clarify: this topic is where you talk about the times that you've looked at the rest of the world and said "What the Hell is wrong with you?" It can be either a piece of work that they hail as the second coming, but you think is two bit trash, or it can be the other way around. To avoid too much controversy, let's try and stick to the entertainment industry. I'll go first.

Watchmen. Full stop. Everyone says that this was when the comic superhero finally grew up. I like to think of it as when the comic superhero choked to death on his own vomit after being bitten by a rabid dog named Alan Moore. Or, more appropriately, it was when the comic superhero was brutalized and thrown from a high-rise window. Ever since Watchmen, superheroes have almost ceased to be heroes. People tell me that superheroes since Watchmen have been more human. That's the goddamn problem: they're not supposed to be human! Hence the prefix "SUPER"! They're supposed to be above our petty concerns. They're supposed to be immovable pillars of righteousness, not the chaotic fantasies of a sociopathic thirteen-year-old. Simply put: Good is never old-fashioned, and idealism beats the living Hell out of cynicism any night of the week. That's what superheroes are about.

In all fairness, my beef isn't so much with Watchmen as with what Watchmen represents. I still think the story is garbage, but that's forgivable. Not every comic is going to be a masterpiece. What I truly loathe is that the entire fucking industry took this garbage and tried to emulate it. I found myself hoping the movie would fail simply out of spite, and the people I hang out with will tell you I'm not the kind of person who does that. It really just pushed all the wrong buttons with me.

Okay, rant over. It felt good to finally get that out of my system after all these years. Oh, and I'll give you one guess as to who my favorite superhero is. It shouldn't be hard.

No sweat. To try keep the subject to entertainment, I'm moving it over to Movies and TV.

On the subject, I don't get "sex" comedies like American Pie and Knocked Up. I don't have a weak stomach or find them taboo, and actually find a few of them pretty funny. I just don't get why there are so many of them. I guess it's like "torture porn" horror movies like Saw and they're easy to produce?

New Battlestar Galactica. Effing hated it - and long before the crap deus ex machina ending, too. The show was dark, angsty, and unrelentingly bleak. Call me crazy, but I don't watch tv so I can feel inspired to slit my wrists. I much prefer the original show. It may have been campy at times, but it was fun.

Grand Theft Auto - the whole series was overrated, and you can't look up a free roam game without some guy posting about how it's a GTA ripoff. I have yet to play a free roam game WORSE then GTA! Just because they did it first does not mean they do it best!

on the other side of the coin:

Godzilla (the US version): I don't get why him looking like a giant T-Rex counts against him, since that was the entire design motiff around the original Godzilla. The only difference is that now people have a better idea how a T-Rex actually looked and behaved. And he did breath fire, I don't care if the fans don't like how it happened it still happened! You can't say 'He doesn't breath fire!' when he clearly does! And I fail again to see how that fact alone could make or brake a movie! Then there's the whole "It's beaten with conventional weapons" complaint. God forbid they decide not to chase off Godzilla without using some impossible scientific invention or another giant monster right? ****ing losers.

People Hate It, I Love It:
Superman Doomsday: Maybe it's because I saw the movie before knowing it was based on a comic arc & they changed a ton of stuff, but it's one of my favorite DC DTV movies
Transformers Armada:It was the series that brought me in to transformers, so I've got the nostalgia glasses on for this.

    Why?

People love the majority of CN's You Are Here block , but I don't find the appeal for it.

A majority don't like the Superhero Squad cartoon, but I'm in the minority who enjoys it.

People Love It, But You Hate It
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen-I think my posts in the movie discussion forum are self-explanatory.
Reality TV-Kill it, kill it, KILL IT.
Family Guy-In all honesty, I only like Family Guy for the first three seasons. At least right there Seth MacFarlane was able to write out decent stories. But the newer seasons are just awful.
The Simpsons-It's been 20 years, Groening. Put it to rest.
The Cleveland Show-It's a spin-off of a bad TV show that's even worse.
Neon Genesis Evangelion-The most f'ed up anime I've ever watched. Out of all the emo characters in any given anime, Shinji has to be the worst. Hell, he should be called "Angsty McEmopants" for being so emo and angsty.
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya-Just watch this video:
YouTube - A Handy Dandy Guide - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

People Hate It, But You Love It
Transformers Armada-I don't "love" it, per-say, but I give it a grudging respect because it was the show and toyline that actually brought me back into Transformers.

People Love It, I Hate It

    - Joss Whedon, in general - I admit I haven't watched a huge amount of his stuff but, what little I watched of Buffy just rubbed me the wrong way and I've steered clear of his stuff since then.
    - Quentin Tarantino, in general - Definitely in the minority here, I know, but I consider Pulp Fiction to be the worst movie I've ever seen.
    - Sex comedies (American Pie, 40 Year Old Virgin, etc)
    - Seinfeld - Just didn't find it very funny and all the characters grated on me. Watched ~ 3 seasons just because it was the only thing on.
    - Arrested Development - "Hate" might be a bit strong but I watched one of the multi-episode marathons Fox did and just didn't find it funny.
    - College sports, especially football.
    - Pro sports, especially football.
    - Superman I and II (live action)

People Hate It, I Love It

    - Live-action TF movie franchise - Relative to the online fandom, anyway; everyone I know IRL loves the franchise.
    - Talk radio
    - Metallica's music from Black Album to S&M
    - Nickelback - I'm ashamed to admit it and I know they only have two basic songs that they just change the lyrics to...but I like one of those basic songs.
